Listening to: Nine Days - Absolutely
Yesterday a storm came through bringing lightning, thunder and rain. I made the realization at gym that my dog is afraid of thunderstorms. But the skies cleared up by the time I got home so he seemed fine.
It wasn't until 1:28am when the thunder/lightning started again. I was starting to stir with the thunder slowly waking me. I opened my eyes to my big black lab standing in the doorway of my room. And juss like the horror scenes in movies the lightning flashed so bright it lit up the kitchen in that eery way and you usually find the shadowy figure of yer murderer standing in room somewhere, but this time it was a dog. With kids they are usually whispering/talking or screaming/crying by the time they get to your bedroom door right? By then you are awake and know who/what it is. But with a silent dog it was a little eery that I still woke up and knew something was wrong. Mainly cuz he was attempting to come into my room and he -never- does that. My room is almost as bad as the bathroom.
The kitchen and my room are hardwood floor and he -hates- hardwood floors. He's such a klutz and can't grip enough to walk let alone run like I know he wanted to. I watched him wimp out on coming into my room and he headed back to the front room where he paced and came back to the other bedroom with carpet. He usually would be under a bed by now, but since there is no bed to hide under he was pacing all over the house.
I tried to get him to lay on the floor in my room by putting blankets and stuff down, but he didn't want the floor, nooo he wanted more. He ended up sneakily (slowly) crawling onto my bed. This cannot happen every time there is a thunderstorm. There is not enough room and/or patience for this. Something must be done. But he was being cute and made me laugh. He wouldn't hold still for like 30 minutes doing his nervous/stressed habits, but he finally settled down with the storm. He didn't leave the bed until 6:45am. It was a squishy night with fighting for covers mostly, but there was some sleep to be had. Still makes me giggle.
I can understand my lil' old dog, Yoda the lil mutt being scared and jumping in bed with you and his lil' body shaking in fear and you being able to hold him and sleep. But this, this is a grown black lab that weighs as much as, what, a 10 yr old? Imagine a 10 yr old boy jumping into bed with his parents at 1:30 in the morning.
I wonder what to do with him for the 4th of July and all the fireworks. He has no bed to hide under. I guess I'll have to take him with me to Logan (or as far away from Logan as possible) and hope there's a bed up there he can hide under. Speaking of... before the storm I was watching him from the screen door as he barked at some ppl down the street along with all the other dogs. During all the barking there was a firework that went off in the air I think, or juss made a pop sound and Max took off from the far corner of the yard up to the screen door in like 2 seconds (he almost didnt wait fer me to open the door) and he goes straight behind the couch and then starts pacing and peeking out each sides of the couch.
Awww my poor scardy cat dog. He's gonna need a lot of TLC. Ooh my doggy. He is ..special and I lub him.
