The Classics

Listening to: chatter of typing?
Feeling: alright
This is an essay done in my english class, I have to put it here because I usualy put them in my blog on MySpace but uhhh, my profile is down for maintenance for some reason. so here... The Classics Dear Government- I am a movie watcher from hell. There’s something about a good movie that puts me at ease. But “Me” Is not the topic I’m going for right now. What I really want to talk about is the new generation’s movies and the new generation watching movies. I was sitting at my house a couple weeks ago, when my friend Twitch came busting thru my door Crammer style. In her hand she had the anniversary addition DVD of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. She then proceeded to pop it into my DVD player without asking, knowing it would be ok with me to watch it for the millionth time. Now, here’s the catch, I have a roommate by the name of Sloan. He is 18, and has never seen RHP Show. I suppose that isn’t a sin, but then I got curious. I asked him about the classics. It went like this Me-Have you ever seen People Under the Stairs? S- No Me- Have you ever seen Last House on the Left? S- No Me- Have you ever seen Little Shop of Horrors? S- No Me- What have you seen? And might I ask, was it the hallway or the bedroom closet, which your parents locked you in? Now, I have become even more curious with the younger generation. When I go to my Aunts house, I try to pay attention to the movies and TV shows my 13 year old cousin watches. I was quite surprised. She mostly watches the shows on The Disney Channel or Shows for her age. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, I just hadn’t realized how things have changed so much since I was her age or even younger. I remember watching Tales from the Crypt, The Goonies, Night of the Living Dead, Chucky, Freddy Krueger, Jason, and other gory adult oriented films. What happened to “desensitization” of the nation? Now there are very strange (in my own opinion) movies and shows, showcasing love, boys and school careers. I understand the laws against violence on TV have changed, and I understand the nation is trying to get younger people to think that these morals of school and whatnot are the correct path, but do we really need to take a primitive gene out of them, such as violence? I have never heard of a kid becoming a wife beater because of TV. I’ve heard of a kid becoming violent because they’re parents are. It’s like blaming the music for ones actions. There aren’t hidden messages, your just making excuses to kill people. If the government really wants people to join the military and come back mentally unharmed then maybe they should quit cracking down on the blood fest. That’s why people came back from Nam so fucked up. It was the 60’s. Not too many people saw violence on TV, let alone owned a TV. So they went to Nam thinking that when you slice someone’s abdomen open, they spewed candy and flowers. So now because of that, I have to watch my step around old people… never know when a firecracker will send them into some sort of flashback. I suppose I will end this with a plea. Bring back the old fashioned gore. Publish Rob Zombie. Quit being Puds. A faithful Lawbreaker, ~Z~

That comment about old people going crazy over firecrackers was a little racy, yet delightful. I don't know if I'd like more gore on tv, I was kept in a dog kenel until I was 16. Though I'm glad I saw the Rocky Horror Picture Show, in fact we were planning on making me a golden Rocky outfit for Halloween.

Bye like
