{Bridget waved her hands and all her papers flew into a neat pile, her books slammed shut. She knew she had enough work there to last her another few hours but she couldn’t sit there working anymore, her brain was beginning to slow down, she needed something else to do.
Just as she began to ponder what to entertain herself with, a small pebble came gliding through her window, over her bed and dropped with a small tink on the floor. She, with a puzzled expression, climbed on her bed and leaned out the window. She looked down towards the driveway and saw Liam there, a bright smile on his face.
He waved ‘hello’ then waved the other hand which held a familiar book.
Bridget climbed off her bed and rushed downstairs, leaving her fathers questioning look unanswered she rushed out the front door.}
Bridget: I hadn’t even noticed it was gone!
Liam: I figured that’s why I came to drop it off for you.
Bridget: Thank you! I read it before bed, was bound to realize I forgot it.
{She took the book and smiled. They stood in a slightly awkward silence before Bridget spoke again.}
Bridget: So… Aileen told me the news.
Liam: She did, did she? {He chuckled lightly to himself.} Yeah. It was a bit awkward really…
Bridget: How so?
Liam: Well, right after you left Vincent said he was going to walk to you home and left. So me and Aileen were just sort of sitting there in silence…drinking our coffee. {He shrugged.} She just… came out with it. “You know, I like you Liam…have since I first saw you.” I’m ready to bet that wasn’t true.
Bridget: {She laughed.} Yeah, leave it to Aileen to try and be romantic. She’s always had something for you though.
Liam: Well, she came out with that and I told her I kind of liked her too. After we got into the conversation I felt like I was talking to a tomato.
Bridget: {She laughed even harder, Aileen was one who’s blush could put a rose to shame.} So you and Aileen are a couple… how cute, before ‘ya know it, we’ll see the two of you marching down the aisle!
Liam: I’m not planning that far yet. {He smiled.} Well, I should get going, I expect she’ll be calling soon, after all… it’s already been ten minutes since the last call!
{Again, they both laughed then Liam entered his truck again and drove off up the street, leaving Bridget standing on her door step.}
Marion: Bridget, what are you doing? Come inside, it’s cold.
Bridget: {She turned to see her mother standing with the door open.} Oh, sorry. Liam stopped by, {she lifted the book,} forgot it in the car.
Marion: Well come on then, inside.
{Bridget followed her mom inside, closing the door behind her.}
Ellen: Look Bridget! {She held up a sheet of paper with numerous magazine clippings glued onto it for Bridget to see.}
{Bridget took it from her sister’s hand and looked at it. It was actually pretty nice. She had cut out many different scenery pictures, a few animals and colored herself some, what seemed to be, fairies. The colors were very eye pleasing as well, orange, blue, violet, red, and a quite bit of green.
Bridget turned and sent the paper gliding to her mother in the kitchen.}
Bridget: Look at that mom, Ellen made it. It’s really pretty. {She noticed the broad and proud smile spread on her sisters’ face.}
Marion: Oh wow, it is pretty. Beautifully done, Ellen! You should hang it up on your wall. {The collage slid off her hand and made its way back across the room and into Ellen’s hands.}
Ellen: {She nodded proudly.} I’m going to, and then I’m going to make more. {Ellen clutched her work and raced upstairs to her bedroom.}
Eric: Don’t forget the mess!
Ellen: I know daddy!
Bridget: I think I’m going to turn in already.
Marion: So early?
Bridget: Yeah. I’ll read for a bit then go to sleep.
Marion: Alright then sweetie, good night.
Eric: Good night, Bridge. {He peeked over the news paper and gave her an affectionate look.}
Bridget: Good night.
{She turned and made her way back upstairs, passing her overly joyed sister on the way back.}
