chapter one

okay this isn't all of it! The Delivery Chapter 1: The Beginning A war between man and giant has been spreading quickly over the land of Weraf. In particular would be the Castle of Piol, where a king and queen just gave birth to a lovely daughter. Frightened that she would be caught up in the war, they frantically tried to find her a place to safely grow up, but there was nowhere to be found. One day they drifted into a small town, and asked to speak with the mayor. The Mayor said no and that he was sorry but he couldn’t risk having her found in his town. The king and queen started grieving at his feet, begging him to take her somewhere safe. The mayor thought for a while, and accepted the burden of their child, but warned them that the place where he knew would be the safest wouldn’t be anywhere near here. They agreed and were pleased to find a stranger willingly enough to take her somewhere safe. The child watched as her parents drifted slowly down the path. Now the mayor had this fragile child to care for. He knew what he had to do, but it would be hard to find her again. He slowly walked, cradling the child in his arms, to a crooked house. When he lifted his hand to knock on the door, the door swung open, and an elderly man walked swiftly toward the mayor. He noticed the child, and knew what needed to be done. He made some adjustments in his home, and said a quick rhyme. As the words finished, a portal opened. The mayor looked at the man curiously, and handed him the child. He walked through the portal, and in seconds was back, but without the child. The mayor didn’t ask where she was, but asked him to never tell a soul, and that he will be back in eighteen years to recover the child. ~ Carla stood next to the large oak tree, thinking of what she needed to do before she moved to Mount Pleasant. She was going to college soon, and she couldn’t help but think of all the things she wanted to do before the summer ended. She slumped down on the cold ground and squeezed her knees tightly against here body. She thought carefully about everyone in her life. Faces flashed before her eyes, and they started to water. She didn’t want to leave her friends behind, but she felt the need to get out of this small town. Carla had lived in Roscommon all of her life, and felt the urge to travel and be somewhere new. As she sat and pondered, her mother’s voice traveled to her ear. At first she wasn’t going to answer, but once she heard that it was Kyle, she sprung to life and quickly made her way to the sliding door, at the back of her house. Kyle’s voice was troubled. Carla hoped that he called to tell her that he’s going to miss her, and became happy to the troubled sound, but it wasn’t what she thought. “Car, Rachel has been missing for a couple days.” He sounded frightened. “What do you mean missing?” “Like her parents haven’t seen her for a couple days, and Ben doesn’t know where she is.” “What?” “No one has seen her, or heard that she was leaving.” “Where was she last?” “Work, but no one there has seen her either. Actually, that’s how this started. She didn’t show up at work, so they called her at home, and when she wasn’t there, they called her at her dad’s house, but she wasn’t there either.” “Could she just be somewhere else?” “Where else would she be? Ben hasn’t even heard from her in a while.” “Are they fighting?” “No just the other day she was over, but she had to leave for work.” “I can’t believe that this is happening.” Carla didn’t know what to do or think. She started to cry. “Don’t cry Car, they are trying everything they can to find her.” “I know, but I am still really worried about her. I hope she is safe.” Rachel lay lifeless on a cold damp floor. The room was dark, and the smell was unbearable, but it still seemed familiar. To her shock it came to her, it was the smell of burning flesh. In a panic Rachel rushed to the nearest corner of the small room. No light could be seen, and she could notice if there was anyone else in the room with her. After a few minutes went by, she started to drift off to sleep, but a noise woke her up. It was the sound of male voices, and they were coming near. A light came from around a corner, and two large men and a smaller man came into the room. They carried torches, and the light blinded Rachel temporarily. Once her vision came back, she could clearly see the three men staring at her. They were whispering something to each other, but Rachel couldn’t understand the words. The two larger men were about in their twenties, and were about six foot. There large bodies were covered in clothing that Rachel would see in one of Ben’s medieval magazines, but the smaller man was dressed different. He was a lot older than the other two, but Rachel couldn’t point out an age range, but he was dressed in cloth that looked similar to velvet. The younger men started to argue, but the language that they were speaking wasn’t English. Rachel couldn’t recognize it, but once the men started to yell, the older man held out his hand and said something quietly to them, but didn’t keep his eyes off of her. Rachel wanted to say something, but was afraid to make her situation worse, so she just kept to her corner, and stared back gentle at the men. The smaller man said something in the other language, and one of the men walked towards me and bent down to grab my arm. She relaxed under his powerful touch but once she saw the glistening of his sword she froze. Tears started to run down her cheeks, and she started to fear what was going to happen. In fear she screamed, “What do you want from me?” The large man froze under the shock of her voice. He did suspect her to say anything, but the older man smiled sweetly, and walked slowly towards her. As he approached, he waved his arm, and the man holding her let go carefully. “So in your culture you speak the common language.” He stood in front of her, and studied her. His eyes wandered over her body, and she became uncomfortable and sat back down in her corner. The man smiled at her, and said, “What is your name?” “My name?” Rachel looked puzzled. “It’s Rachel, um, Rachel Adams.” Once she finished her sentence she noticed the faces on all of the men in the room. They looked shocked at the sound of her name. “Why, what’s wrong?” “Your name isn’t Carla?” “No, but she is my friend, why do you want Carla? What’s going on here?” The older man didn’t answer, but he turned to the other men and nodded at them and left the room. The men came towards her, and one struck her on the back of her head. The older man walked quickly out of the building. He walked nervously to a larger building close to the dungeon where Rachel laid unconscious. When he entered, another slightly younger man stood up and said, “is it her, did you get their daughter?” “No Sir, but she is one of her friends.” “What, the King is expecting his daughter to be home soon, and you got the wrong girl? What are we to do with this girl?” “Well I have a spell that can deceive her into thinking she is from this dimension, and she could be in that party to bring Princess Carla home.” “While you’re back in that dimension, find more people Princess Carla would trust in her party,” “What? Isn’t that going to be harder to get them to stay?” “If you are as powerful as you tell me, than you can succeed in changing all of them.” “How many more would you like me to steal away?” “I think that we’ll need a large party, so eight more people.” “As you wish sir.” He rushed out of the building and made his way back to Rachel. Once he got to her, she was still unconscious on the floor, but the men hadn’t left her side. He spoke to them in the different language, and they walled out the door. Once they were gone he said a rhyme, and a small light surround her. It danced around her, and memories flowed through the faint light. There was laughter that came through it first, but then suddenly the light turned dark. Screaming surround her, and death clearly showed through the darkening light. Once the rhyme was finished, the light flooded into her body, and with a gasp she was rose to her feet. He smiled at his creation, and quickly made his way out the door, making sure it was locked as he left. Once the men saw him rush and lock the door, they looked at him puzzled at what was about to happen. They walked together to the older man’s crooked house, and he explained while they walked. They walked through the crooked door, and peered childishly at the portal that lied in the middle of the small room. They nodded slowly at each other, and walked into it one at a time. They reached where they found Rachel, and it was full of people. The building was large, and it seemed to be full of children. The two larger men were puzzled, but the older man was more knowledgeable of this dimension. He quickly explained that the building that they were in was called a school, and that it was a place where they educate their children, from young to adult. They still looked puzzled, but wandered slowly behind him. As they came closer to the office, he told them to stay outside of the office and watch for Carla. When he entered the small air-conditioned room, he noticed a sign that said PRINCIPAL, and went to enter the room, but was stopped by one of the women at a desk. “How may I help you sir?” “I am looking for a some students, they have a trip to go on, but I am not quite sure if they are ready for it.” “Oh, do you have a slip saying it is okay to leave the school?” He shook his head, and noticed the children were leaving the building. “What’s going on?” “The day is over sir, maybe you mixed up your times?” He looked at the door. “Maybe,” and he left the room. When he entered the busy hall, he noticed that the two men were holding a couple of kids, and they were nervously standing still. “What are your names?” They looked at each other, and said together “Kyle and Ben.” The smaller man looked at the crinkled list, and noticed that their names were on it. He looked at the bigger men and smiled at them. “Where are these people?” He handed him the list and Kyle looked it over quickly and handed to Ben, who looked it over too. “They are most likely going home, why do you want all of us?” The man smiled at him, “we have your friend Rachel.” Panic rushed through their bodies. “Where is she, what have you done to her?” Ben screamed at the man. He smiled again, but didn’t respond. “Take them to the building with her, and I’ll be there soon.” They were dragged through the wall where they had entered before, and the man wandered the other direction. When they entered the other dimension, they looked carefully around at their surroundings. It was night, and everything was shapeless. Ben looked over at Kyle and noticed his wardrobe. He wore armor with a cloak that floated gently behind him. He looked majestic. Ben glanced down at himself, and noticed that he was wearing common clothes: a traveling cloak and some leather armor. Ben couldn’t help but smile slightly at the fact that he was wearing the clothing that he usually dreamed of wearing. They arrived at the place where Rachel was being kept, but the men didn’t open the door. Ben and Kyle were pushed tightly against the wall, and the men held them to it. After a few minutes, the older man walked up to them. He shook his head at the treatment Ben and Kyle were shown, but didn’t say anything about it. He smiled at them and started to say a rhyme when a knock at the door interrupted him. He quickly looked over at the large men standing a bit back and they entered the building. After a few minutes everything was quiet, and the men returned and nodded at him. He started his rhyme again, and the same light that surrounded Rachel, started to weave around Ben and Kyle. The same laughter came around them, but the light never turned dark, and the screams never came. It just slipped quickly into them, and they became silent. The older man smiled victoriously at them, and ordered the other men to place them in the building. They did as told and wandered back to the crooked house. Once they entered the house, they walked straight into the portal. This time the portal lead them into to the same house where they left Carla. A smile came to the older man’s face, and they walked up to the door. When they knocked, Carla’s mother answered the door. She was shocked by the mere size of the two other men, but when she looked at the smaller one, she said, “Carla?” He nodded.
