The Longest Night

The Longest Night “Why would you do such a thing? You blew me off for your stupid friends. You even forgot we had a date. Wait, you probably knew we had plans, so you went anyway.” Layla was pissed. Her boyfriend, Gerard, just blew her off to go with his friends. Gerard had no logical explanation of what happened. He simply forgot, but he knew she would say “that’s not good enough.” “Babe, I’m sorry. They forced me to…” “You’re such a liar, Gerard.” Layla cut off his statement. She didn’t want to hear it. She hated the fact that they had plans to go out to a nice restaurant, and he went out to some park with his friends. Gerard wasn’t forced to do anything. That is why he is kind of glad she cut him off, so he wouldn’t start “digging his own grave,” as Layla would call it. “Layla, this isn’t fair.” “What is fair, huh? That you leave me hanging?” “No…” Gerard’s thoughts drifted into the air. He knew he screwed up. The problem was, he was clueless on how to fix it. 1 “It’s not like you haven’t done this to me!” Oh, shit, he thought to himself. He isn’t exactly making things better. Plus, she actually had never done this to him. The grave he prevented digging, hypothetically started to take shape in the ground right in front of him. “Go to hell, Gerard! You know I would never do such a thing to you.” She was right. “Why are you making such a big deal out of it?! All I wanted was to hang out with my friends!” “So that’s it, huh? I was right. You purposely ditched me. Way to go, Gerard.” Layla suddenly broke into tears. She quickly snatched her purse, ran downstairs, grabbed Gerard’s brother, Mikey, and they were off. She couldn’t stand it. She needed to go somewhere she could think. No, not the mall. Instead, they went to the cemetery. Layla felt comfortable around Mikey. They were close friends. In this cemetery, Layla and Mikey had many “heart to heart” chats, expressing their inner emotions and deep dark secrets. “So, what happened?” asked Mikey. Mikey wasn’t really there. He had better things to do, like comfort Layla, then go to some city park. “He blew me off. We were supposed to have a date, but instead he went to the park with his buddies and played on the swing-set.” “Oh…that’s pretty dumb.” “You’re telling me.” 2 “And the park? That’s random. At least go somewhere cool like a bar or arcade or something.” “Finally, someone sees my point.” “Yeah.” “You know, Mikey. I don’t even know what happened. He kept saying that many different things happened. For example, at some point, he was talking all like he was forced to go.” “I don’t know. If I could solve this for ya, I would. But I can’t.” The two of them finally stopped at the mausoleum where Gerard and Layla shared their first kiss. Cemeteries at night were somewhat, romantic to Layla. With all the mystical fog and everything, it was truly a beautiful sight. “You wanna know what sucks, Mikey?” “What?” “I seriously don’t want things to be with way between Gerard and I. I am at the point in this fight were I don’t even care what happened. Now, I just want to be in my sweetheart’s arms right now.” “Well then, why don’t you go home to him?” “Its not that easy…Gerard probably hates me…” Mikey walked over to Layla and gave her a hug. They gazed into each other’s eyes. “He could never hate you…” 3 Meanwhile, back at the house… “Damn man, I fucked up this time.” Gerard decided to talk to Layla’s twin brother, Jake. “It’s partly my fault.” “Yeah it is…but it is also the fact that I can’t remember jack.” “She was over-dramatic” “I guess…hey, you’d be pissed too, if you were in her shoes.” “Gerard here makes a point. But you shouldn’t hang yourself over her emotions.” “Man, shut up. She’s my girlfriend. I love her. I hurt her pretty badly, and I shouldn’t have…duh. You’re not good for anything.” “Whatever.” “I hope she still loves me…”
