I've been commissioned to knit a set of toy animals based on this--

I'm really excited about this. I'm not going off of any pattern, just using the things I've learned [and I'll be trying to learn more things, of course]. The picture is only a suggestive guide, and I'm interested to see what I'll come up with.
Here's a prototype I knit up over the past couple of days. I had to start over and rip back some pieces, and I'm not totally satisfied with the head, but I believe I'll work out the kinks.

Although:

Oh, that's funny! I got mad paint skillz! And you can see the very obvious color change--I ran out of yarn and the next ball was dyed differently.
