Day of Celebration!

Listening to: Warriors of Light
Feeling: awesome
I just had the coolest experience in my entire life so far. The Joseph Smith Day of Celebration! Man that was awesome! Three days of grueling practices in 120 degree heat with a hot July sun blazing overhead. And it was all worth it! I was a field performer in the first number, "Praise to the Man” We all wore white "Warriors of Light" t-shirts and khakis. Near the end of the song, we all pulled out white scarves and twirled those around. All three-hundred of us. I guess the crowd really liked that because when we pulled them out, they cheered really loud. The first day of practice we were there at eight in the morning at Romney Stadium. We practiced our number on the soccer field for a few hours, ate lunch, and then practiced a little bit more. We got to go home around two in the afternoon after listening to this awesome motivational speaker. On Thursday we were again there at eight. We had two run-throughs of the entire show, and then had a break for lunch at the Aztec Center. The Copper Mill catered for us with hamburgers and salad. Not bad. After that we had a third run-through. Man that field was hot. We had dinner after that, then a dance on the scorching parking lot. We were back in our seats by seven, with a fireside starting at eight. We had a Joseph Smith look alike give us a talk, and then the Young Women’s president concluded it. After that, it was time for a rehearsal at nine with performance lighting. That rehearsal was also open to the public. On Friday we were there at ten. We again had two run-throughs, then a break for lunch. After that, we got to go home for an hour and rest before the real show. We had to be back at seven and in our seats. The pre-show started at seven-thirty, followed by the main event at nine. The "Praise to the Man" number was lined up before and ready to run out there on cue. That cue came, and we ran out there, in front of twenty-thousand spectators, and millions more watching in Stake Centers across North America. Yeah. A lot of people. That was very exhilarating! To be out there performing with over 4,000 other youth! I don't regret being there at all and I wish we could've been there longer. I really enjoyed those three days. It was especially worth it when we got to see the rest of the show after our number. The glow sticks, the fireworks, very nice. Not to mention the spirit. I'll bet the whole stadium could feel it by the end of the show.
