Vigilanteism, Thug Culture, and You

I am sitting in the car listening to both sides of this country take their aim at the Zimmerman trial. The right calling Zimmerman a hero for standing up to doing something positive in his community and Trayvon the instigator and assailant of an otherwise great guy. Then the left calling Zimmerman a closet bigot and wanna-be cop and Trayvon an innocent victim of racial profiling.

They are both wrong, but I can see in retrospect why both sides could be confused.

People supporting Zimmerman believe in the justice system and the second amendment more then they do George Zimmerman. They fear that the other side are going to use this event to try to take their gun rights away as with everything in this country with the right. If they could do it to one person they could do it to you so it's all a matter of "We better back this guy or they will come after my gun next." So they took the story at face value and made sure to deflect the situation to anything else, but gun laws. Selfish.

People supporting Trayvon live in a world where everything is always a constant where there is a group having it really good and another having it really bad. They want justice... I doubt it's for Trayvon. They want justice for themselves and their own wants and needs. They "know" that if it could happen to Trayvon it could happen to them, and the only reason it happened to Trayvon is because he was profiled because he was one of the minorities in this country and the perpetraiter was one of the ruling class. So they want justice for themselves because they are part of that minority, and THEY feel like THEY got cheated. Selfish.

We can't help this from happening, in fact I'm shocked that this hasn't happened sooner. Look at all of our media. The news media is out there telling both sides of the aisle that they are either going to constantly have something taken from them. For the Right it's either their gun or their right to worship their religion, or their money. They clutch onto their bibles and the constitution of the USA because without them these people really have nothing to believe in for themselves. Anyone who doesn't revel before the awesomeness of those two foundations are out to destroy it and them. For the left it's a constant stream of fear that there is a divide in this country based on the hot topic they are talking about and that "THEY" rigged the game to make life constantly difficult for them. Everyone who isn't part of the minority, unless they proclaim subserviance to their cause, is considered "Them".

The movie media is telling people that being a vigilante is about the coolest and most noble thing you could do for the community. We have characters in video gaming and movies who "Rise" up and become the city's "Knight" and you know exactly who I'm talking about. Is it possible that the hero complex was way too strong in Zimmerman for him to resist the chance to be the hero like in a bat man movie? That he wanted to make a name for himself by taking down this kid who he saw was up to no good and become famous for his act of bravery? Was he too fed up with the cops not being able to put these criminals away that he felt they were hopeless and took matters into his own hands? Of course it could be.

The music entertainment industry... mainly in focus the Rap music entertainment industry is telling our african american youths that there is a certain way to live on those mean streets. For the most part it is telling you to disobey authority, to be hard and fight against anyone who crosses you wrong, that if you get into a fight you make sure that the other guy has no choice but to remember how much of a mistake it was to fuck with you. It teaches them all to be the biggest Alpha Male in the neighborhood. So is it completely possible that Trayvon, under the influence of these messages, felt the obligation to stand up and confront the man who probably gave him orders, to defy the authority being tried to be put over him? Was it installed into him to prove his dominance over that man because he may have caused him fear in order to reestablish his position of "Alpha Male"? Of course it could be.

So why are we al fixated in the one solution that it must have happened because Trayvon was guilty for being black without proper attire and Zimmerman got off of his action because he was white?

All everybody is doing here is setting back racial connections in this country ten fold.

Fucking think like these people who desided the case's verdict had to do.

Hate Zimmerman because he was cowardly enough to shoot the kid who was getting the better of him in a fight and he pissed himself. Not because he is fucking white. If the first thing you are getting out of this event is that Zimmerman was patrolling the streets looking for a black man to kill then you're already wrong.

Accept that Trayvon did do wrong things and that his actions equally contributed to this outcome. That if he said "I'm just trying to get home." and not answered Zimmerman with a right hook he'd be home and not dead.

This entire situation should have been handled between them with dialog and this isn't what people are understanding about it. They are blaming Zimmerman for following Trayvon to begin with under the assumption he profiled him racially, and Trayvon for cold cocking Zimmerman, not for them not being able to solve all of this in two minutes with simple conversation.

Why is this so fucking hard to understand? Why are you all making this something it never was?

Look, as a man of color I have to say. Arch has a point. Lets be real for a second here. They're bigger issues going on in this country. But were allowing the media to exploit our emotions. Detroit for example has a murder a day rate, and most of them are Martins age. I should know I live there. But the media doesn't give a shit about that kind of thing. Why? Because its easier for the ratings to prop something like this. How about we deal with violence in general first. And take race off the table?
LOOK UP TIM WISE TALKING ABOUT WHITE PRIVILEGE. perhaps your perspective will change...
