The Story That Pete Told Me

There were two kids, a boy and a girl. The boy was scarred by all the words that were ever said about him, but was immensly happy. The girl was brilliantly beautiful, but her beauty only brought pain. Her scarring didn't show on the outside, but on the inside. These two children lived together in a small, safe valley where no one bothered them, save for one creature. It was their greatest fear, the large, black bird with razor sharp wings that circled their small home, ready to strike when they wern't expecting. His red, beady eyes looked down at the children with a wild hunger, and they lived in fear that he would take one fo them and not the other. The children loved one another dearly, and would rather die together than live alone. One day, their worst fear was made a reality. The boy was outside, lying on his back and watching the clouds, when the bird came from nowhere. He swooped down, his sharp wings gouging the earth as he plucked the boy up in his bloody beak and flew off with him, off towards the setting sun. The girl, inside with a book, heard nothing, and only began to worry when the boy did not come home. When she looked outside at the long gouges, she knew what had happpened, and what she must do to save her friend. Pulling her coat around her, she left the small house dark and raced through the inky black night She ran for what seemed like hours. She eventually found the nest of the terribly beast, and looked up, not daring to believe that he truely had her friend. He did, and she could hear the soft moans that came from him. She began climbing the tall tree, and was soon climbing into the nest. She stopped when she saw that her friend was astill alive, huddled in a corner while he watched the bird eat a small rabbit alive. She ran around the edge of the nest, and wrapped her arms around him, allowing his hot tears fall onto her soft cheeks. They were so busy comforting each other, they never ntoiced the bloody beak close around them.
