* Chapter 9

Nate pulled out his board and went right out back. Sam stood in her bedroom for a minute and soaked in the fact she was having one of the best days of her life. She pulled off her tank top and jeans and pulled on her board shorts. She ran out back right as Nate was pulling his shirt over his head. She watched him for a minute. "The water looks great." He said as he turned around. Sam nodded her head as she grabbed her board off the deck and walked over the sand. Together they paddled out and sat on the waves and waited for the perfect one. Just then a huge swell came in and Nate looked a little shocked. "I'm going in!" Sam said as she started paddling off towards the wave. Nate sat and watched her as she dissapeared into the wave and came out the other end, riding it perfectly and very quick. He followed her as the next wave came in. He was still amazed at how good Sam was. They spent the next two hours going in and out of waves, seeing who could stay on longer. Before they knew it, they saw Echo waving them in from the shore. "Sammie! Dad's home!" She screamed and ran back in the house. They both quickly swam back to the beach and dryed off. Nate put his shirt back on and Sam took of her board shorts and put them on the deck to dry. Sam quickly ran to her room, slid on a skirt and walked back out the deck. "Ready to meet my Dad?" Sam laughed as Nate dryed off his hair. They both walked inside and her Dad was already making dinner. "Dad this is Nate." Her Dad turned around and smiled. "So this is the ever so famous Nate." He held out his hand and Nate shook it. You could tell he was a little nervous, but he held his nerves pretty good. "Mr. Aviit-" "No. It's Joe. Call me Joe. I'm not some uptight middle aged man with a stick up his ass. Just call me Joe." "Alright, Joe." Nate laughed. "What's for dinner Dad?" asked Echo as she grabbed a cooler from the fridge. "Spaghetti." "Awesome? Do you two want one?" Echo asked, offering a drink too Sam and Nate. "I'll take one, thanks." Nate said taking the cooler from Echo. Like you already read, Echo who was only ten, drank more then most of Sam's friends. "No thanks Echo." said Sam. "Kay." Echo gingerly put the cooler back in the drawer and closed the fridge. She held the cooler out to her Dad and he quickly popped the cap off and she took a sip. "Where's Val?" asked their Dad. Echo and Sam both shrugged their shoulders. At about 11 that morning Val left with some of her friends not saying where she was going. At that momment she stumbled through the door. "There she is." Everyone laughed, but Val didn't find it funny. She walked to the fridge, grabbed a beer, and walked to her room. "And that's Val." said Sam. "Ah, I see. Is she always like that?" Nate asked finishing his cooler. "Yep." All three of them said in sync with each other. They spent 2 hours eating dinner, discussing Nate basically. Their Dad asked him questions about his parents and where he lived in Ontario. Nate lost his nerves very quickly and was fitting in with everyone already. Val stayed silent though. About halfway through dinner Val got up and left the table. "I'll go talk to her." said Sam following her back into her room. Val was lying on her bed, staring at the ceiling. "Why are you being so shy?" asked Sam as she entered the room. "I'm just not feeling well." "Oh." There was an awkward silence as Sam sat down beside Val on the bed. "Did you have fun last night." Sam asked, scared of what Val's reaction would be in response to the question. "What the fuck are you doing spying on me?" "Calm down Val..." "No! I'm not calming down! What did you think you were doing." "I wasn't spying on you. I was sitting on my windowsill and i saw the guys walk up from the beach, and then I saw you, wearing my boots by the way, walk out." Sam said, she was acting very calm compared to Val, who was about ready to pull her sisters hair out. "That's a load of bullshit!" "Think that if you want but I saw you leave none the less. How old were those guys anyway?" "None of your god dam buisness and why are you acting like its a crime to go out at night!" "I'm not Val." "You are being such a hypocrite and you know it Sam!" she yelled. "Excuse me?" Sam didn't take kindly being called a hypocrite. "You are always going out late with Alex and you sometimes don't even come home until the next day." Val was twisting Sam's actions and turning them into crimes. "Okay, Yes, I do go out late, I do go out to parties, and yes, I do drink! But you also have to remember Dad knows that I am going most of the time and he also knows the people I am going with! Unlike you! You are going out with guys that are twice your age, you are sneaking out, and then you are bringing them back to our house in the early morning." Sam rarely yelled but she needed to get her point across. "You get drunk and pass out a peoples houses!" Val screamed back. Back out in the kitchen everyone just kind of starred at each other. "Sorry about them Nate, Val's just been acting strange lately." Echo said twirling a small peice of spaghetti. "It's alright, Sam's been telling me what's been going on." "I would go in and talk to her but she doesn't want to listen to me. Sam is the only one who would even start to get her to listen." Joe said picking up everyones plates. Back in the other room Sam and Val were still arguing. "But Val, you don't get it! I'm turning 17! You are only 14! I never did this stuff when I was that young!" "You know what? I don't need to take this shit. Especially from you." Val lay back down on her bed and faced the wall. "I would like for Nate to meet you, if you are done being such a bitch then come out and talk, we all want you out there." Sam told Val before leaving the room. She walked to the bathroom and flushed her face with cold water. After she cooled her temper down she walked back out to the kitchen. "You alright Sammie?" Her Dad asked as she sat on the counter. All she did was nod her head and smile. "Some one ahd to set her straight." Sam laughed. Nate brought the rest of the dishes to the sink and her Dad finished washing them. After everything was cleaned up Nate and Sam walked out to the beach hand in hand.

I agree with you fully [on your comment for my Nancy Grace thing]. The media practically rapes the family from their privacy just to get a good story. It not fair for the family when they're already going through so much.

I'm really sorry but I'm really disgusted at the fact that in this story, a 10-year-old drinks...and has a tattoo...That's just an early start to an alchoholic and ... whatever.
