- - Chapter 8

I woke up to the sound of thunder and rain pounding on the roof of my house. I hated thunderstorms. I got up and walked around my house since I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep. "Kiko where are you?" I called. Kiko was my white kitten. She wasn’t anywhere I looked so I walked over to the light switch and turned the lights on, but when I flicked the switch the lights didn’t come on. The power was out and so were the phones. Then I went to the curtains in my living room and opened them hoping it would bring some light in. I pulled the blinds open and I saw a horrifying sight. My street was filled with water. Then I started to get scared. I needed to find Kiko and get upstairs. I ran to my kitchen and found a flashlight under the sink. Then I opened the door to my basement and flicked on the flashlight. My eyes widened as I saw the water filling up my basement. I shined my flashlight around the basement looking for my kitten. Then I saw her on top of the washing machine crying. The water was pouring in the windows really fast. I knew I had to do this quick. I walked down the stairs. When I got to the fourth step I could feel the cold water at my feet. I felt a chill go up my spine as I crept down the stairs. I got to the basement floor and the water was above my waist. I kept my flashlight shone on Kiko. Then all of a sudden the window above the washing machine burst open and more water started pouring in. Kiko was swept under water. I screamed and dove in trying to find my kitten. I lost my breath and came back to the surface. I grabbed the flashlight that was floating beside me and shone it around the water trying to spot the white fur of my kitten. Then I spotted her on the floor of my basement. I dove under and grabbed her. I grabbed the flashlight and swam with all my might back to the stairs and climbed up. My legs were so numb but I knew that my only chance of survival was to get upstairs. I ran up the stairs trying so hard not to slip. Then I realized that I didn’t close the basement door. I threw Kiko in my bedroom and ran back downstairs and closed the door. I water was already 3 steps away from the top. I ran back upstairs and grabbed my cell phone hoping that maybe it would work. I dialed Nikole’s number and it didn’t work. I wrapped myself and Kiko in my blanket. I tried to think of what to do. "JAYME!"
