october 16th 2008 thursday 11:00 am i did early voting yesterday. i felt really good afterward. i had to park very far from the building and was expecting a long line. i saw one forming outside of the building and thought i would be standing for a while. i was wrong. there was this lady in front of me who kept pacing left and right. she left after i stood there for a minute. the whole thing took less than 10 minutes to confirm my address, sign my name, and press buttons for my selected candidates of choice. right now i am in the process of trying to convince my father to go because he believes that his vote won't make a difference. my father hasn't voted in a very long time and i think that might be a reason why he won't go. i offered to drive him to the polls. i really want him to vote this time around. just 10 minutes out of his life, that's all i'm asking. hopefully he'll be more active in 2012. if anyone here on sitdiary will not be voting in the presidential elections this year can you tell me your reasons why? i don't want to start an argument. i am just trying to grasp why people don't vote. thanks.

If I was of voting age, I wouldn't vote because it doesn't matter how many people vote for that one person. The Electoral College picks whom they want.
I don't vote in the UK because I think that no matter who I vote for, we will end up in the same shit state that we started in. Not to be too negative

It's compulsory over here. I was talking to some of our American exchange students at uni yesterday, and they said only 50% of people vote? Is that right? I just don't understand how people can not care about something that has so much impact on their daily lives.. hmm.
i can't grasp why anyone wouldn't vote, either. it just boggles my mind that anyone would voluntarily spurn one of the few times we get to exercise our rights and our power as the people.
