april 18th 2008 friday 1:50 pm i woke up this morning, earlier than i would have liked to, and noticed i had missed a call. i was about to drift back to sleep but then texted my friend and said, "quit drunk dialing! it's odd that you would call accidentally just as i woke up." a few seconds later i got a reply, "you woke up because we had an earthquake. can you believe that?" i knew he was intoxicated a few hours earlier and so i thought my suspicions were further confirmed about the drunk dialing. i thought that in his drunken stupor he was making silly statements. he ended up calling me and told me to turn on the news. a 5.2 magnitude earthquake did occur today and my friend said it shook his house for 15 seconds. why do i sleep through everything?! it did not even happen in my state, but i guess the seismic waves travel. everyone that called into news stations were people who have lived in california. they were all saying, "we just moved from california and didn't know earthquakes happened here!" i couldn't go back to sleep. thanks, earthquake.
