The Oilfield

Listening to: REK
Feeling: frustrated
Well, I don't know what to say today. It's been really bad. The weather is miserable. about 85 degrees, but the humidinty is like 145% and the fog is so thick you couldn't cut it if you wanted to. I'm really down now. My boss is being a real dick, and eveyone is on edge anyhow, cause we've been out here about 9 days, and everyone is starting to think of home and girlfriends and wives, and we all miss our families. All the injuries and frustrations are taking their toll on the crew. All of the downtime, the time the rig wasn't making money, and the managers getting on our asses, it's really wearing on us. I have realized in the last few months that the oilfield guys really don't get the respect that they deserve. There is a reason that if the U.S. were to go to war, I cannot be drafted. You cannot fly a jet, drive a boat, run a tank, haul ass in a hummer, or go to the local Wal-Mart without oil. Period. I am not saying that this is a good thing, I actually think there should be more spending on researching other forms of energy. I am sick and tired of hearing about greedy Texas oilmen. Okay, I'm fixing to get mad, ya'll bear with me.......Say what you want about politicians and the environment, but when you fly home to visit mom or grandma, you can go get screwed, cause that is the sweat off my back that is getting you there, and in some cases, it really is my blood, sweat, and tears. If we as field hands got paid now the same as in the 60's or even the 80's, with inflation figured in, we'd have it made, and we'd make a decent wage. As it is, we work like runaway slaves, for what im my part of theworld is a pittance, and I personally do it because I love it. Goddamnit, I have worked myself into a fucking heap because I am proud of what I do and what my family has done. And I will make my living like this until I'm ready not to. It is a though, thankless job, but I love it. Okay, I'm done...ya'll take care, and God bless.

I respect you, and I would never take ya'll for granted.

i've never really considered the work that is gone to for oil. but you're right, it's essential to life in america and many other places. so thank you.

and i'm reading song of solomon by toni morrison, not from the bible, but i agree with you, song of songs is my favorite book in the bible. :)
Awww... That's so sad, I'm sorry. So how come you can't be with your families? Is everyone like drafted somewhere? That is so dumb. If your boss keeps being a jerk, you should tell him "RUBBER, GLUE- BACK TO YOU!!!" Then punch him in the face and run for yoru life!

:)
