"Get out of the car."
Simply stated. She turned and stared at him.
"What?" She breathed, exasperated by their argument and this fresh aggrivant.
Not only had he slammed the brakes and pulled over, but now...
"Get.Out.Of.My.Car." A pause between every word, and he gripped the steering wheel so tight his knuckles started to turn white.
"What did I do this time?!" She asked, now to the point of annoyance.
"DON'T YELL AT ME!" He screamed.
She fell back against the window in mock horor in an attempt to cover her obvious shock at his tone.
"Calm...Down..." She said soothingly, and his grip laxed slightly. "Now... What's wrong..."
"I can't believe you would say that..." He muttered, his grip starting to tighten once more.
"Say what?"
He let out something close to a growl and snarled, "You don't even remember?!"
"I don't know what you're talking about!" She said defensively. "I don't remember saying anything bad enough to get you this upset!"
"I'M NOT UPSET!"
She blinked at him slowly, and rather pointedly.
"well, maybe just a little bit... But for a good reason!"
"And what's that?!"
"WHAT YOU SAID!"
"Calm down!"
They stared each other down for a moment, and both of them sighed in unison.
And after all of my alibis desert me
I just want to get by
I don’t want nothing to hurt me
I had no idea where my head was at
But if my heart says I’m sorry can we leave it at that
Because I just want for all of this to end
"I'm sorry." She breathed.
"So you do know what I'm talking about?!" He turned to face her better, the squeak of his leather seat not lightening the mood in the least.
Somehow, stuff like that wasn't funny when you were talking about...
"But I meant it... So I can't take it back..." She muttered, eyeing her seat and wringing her hands.
"You... You meant it?" Her eyes flew up at the hurt in his voice.
"Yes." She mumbled in such a small voice, he almost didn't hear her. She looked back down at the seat.
Silence covered them both like a thick blanket, neither looking at each other.
"Get...Get out of my car!" He choked out.
"But..."
"NO! GET...OUT!" His eyes flooded with tears as she stepped out of the car as calmly as she could... Deep down knowing that he wouldn't leave her there.
She turned around.
"But I lo-"
"DON'T! Just close the door!"
She closed the door behind her, and he put the car in drive again.
He didn't look at her as he eyed the road for non-existant traffic. His eyes furrowed as tears streamed down his face...
But he didn't see her tears.
She saw his foot head towards the gas...
"YOU CAN'T JUST LEAVE ME HERE!"
But she knew he couldn't hear her over the squeal of the tires and the sound of his own teardrops falling.
