Just got back from Cadets and chugging up and down the river in the viking for a few hours.
A couple came down the river in a day cruiser and stopped for dinner up river by the lock. We were waiting for them to go so we could do some speeding and some 'Jesus turns' aha, we have to make sure nobody's around otherwise they could complain and we'd be faced with a £1000 fine. Anyway they spun round and the bint of a wife wanted to feed the ducks. We watched them from down the river as they got caught on a bastard of a sandbank, aha. One big rule 'Know the local water hazards'. Anyway I was 'driving', so we went up to them and asked them if they needed any help. And I was very nervous but managed to used my common sense and perform well. ;D
We spun round so we had our port to their starboard and I put it in astern (backward) and positioned myself a metre or so off of their starboard quarter. They lobbed us some rope and Pedro tied it round the post on the bow. I put it astern and took up the slack. Then put it further back, 'cause this boat was much bigger than ours. It wasn't shifting. So I put it full astern. Smoke was pouring out our exhaust and both boats were shaking but we finally tugged them off the sandbank. I went forward and laid a metre or so away and they thanked us.
Just had to write about that because it's the first time that's happened in 5years of me being there, and I was the one who rescued them. ^___^
Here's a picture of our shed of a boat, the lovely Viking:
And a pic of the boat we rescued:
