To sense a heartbeat

It felt like coming alive for the

first time-- in a long time.

My head shut down and I lived.

I heard my heart burst and the

goosebumps drove me to shivers.

I ran home. The sound of my feet

hitting the ground was overshadowed

by the thump thump thump of my

beating heart.
