Chapter 4

Chapter 4 - OOOH, BURN! Somehow, the fact that Karen and Jesse knew that I was pissed just didn’t satisfy me. I wanted to show them just how pissed I really was. I just wasn’t sure how to do that. That afternoon when I got home, I checked my messages and had one from Nathan, saying he wanted to talk to me. He sounded happy, so I wasn’t too worried. When I called him and asked him what was going on, he asked me if I wanted to go out with him on Friday night. “What happened to keeping this a secret?” I asked suspiciously. “Just because we’re not telling everybody that we’re together doesn’t mean that we have to completely ignore each other, does it?” He answered. “No, I guess not.” I answered uncertainly. “Great! So I’ll see you on Friday night at around eight, ok?” “Ok…” I answered. I was in a good mood for the rest of the afternoon, until the phone rang later on. It was Haley, asking me if I wanted to go to the movies with her and a few other people on Friday night, and I had to tell her that I couldn’t because I already had plans. She asked me who the guy was, and told me to have fun. It made me kind of wonder what she would say if she knew I was going with her boyfriend, and my good mood went away pretty fast after that. The date was awesome; we went to this really cool club. But it was hard to have a good time because my mind kept wandering back to Haley. I just felt so guilty going on a date with a guy that she obviously likes a lot. I decided that I had to tell Nathan that it wasn’t gonna work, and that he was going to have to end it with Haley if he wanted to stay with me. But I’ll do that later because he, at least, is having a good time, and I don’t want to ruin that. I decided that since Nathan was enjoying himself, maybe I should be too. I pulled out the fake I.D. he’d given me earlier and bought a drink. Nothing big, right? I mean, people do it all the time. I drove home later since Nathan had had a lot more to drink then I had. Thankfully, he’s still a good kisser even when he’s drunk. I went home and went to sleep, still thinking about Haley and what would happen if she found out about all this. The next morning I woke up when someone knocked on my door. Thinking it would be Nathan; I jumped up and pulled the door open. "Hey Nath…” my voice trailed off. Karen was standing in the doorway with her arms crossed, looking at me. “We need to talk…” she began. “No, we don’t. I have nothing to talk to you about.” I replied. My cell phone rang. I walked across the room and answered it. “Hey Lil, did you have fun last night?” Nathan asked. “Yeah, it was awesome. You feelin ok?” “I’m ok, just a little hung over.” He answered, sounding tired. “Aww, I’m sorry. Listen, there’s something I have to take care of, so I’ll call you back later, ok?” “Ok, but you better call me, or I just might have to come over,” He said teasingly. “Oh no, anything but that!” I said, laughing. I hung up the phone and turned around. “What the hell are you still doing here? I thought I told you to get out.” “No, you never told me to get out, you just said you didn’t want to talk to me.” She said. “Fine, get out.” “What the hell is your problem?! We didn’t do anything to you and you’ve completely ignored us for the past week, the least you can do is give me some fuckin answers!” She yelled. Right about then I lost it, and everything, all the frustration and anger and feelings of betrayal, just started pouring out. “What’s my problem?! What’s my problem?! I don’t know how the hell you can stand there and ask me that knowing what you’ve done to me when you thought I wasn’t looking. I know you and Jesse are together, I saw you at Haley’s party. How the hell could you do this to me?! He’s a guy, I would expect him to pull something like this, but you’re supposed to be my best friend, and you know how I feel about him, but you still went for him! So before you start asking me what my problem is, maybe you should figure out what your problem is.” I stopped, breathing hard. Karen was shocked. Apparently, it hadn’t crossed her mind that I could have seen them together. “Lily…” she began. “Get the hell out of my room. Even better, get the hell out of my life. I personally don’t care if I ever speak to you or Jesse again, so just stay the fuck away from me. I hope you two are happy together.” She didn’t move. “Who was that on the phone?” “None of your damn business, now get out.” “No.” She said stubbornly. “Fine, I’ll leave then, my boyfriend's sick anyway, so I should go take care of him.” I grabbed my cell phone and my keys and left, not looking back.
