Chapter 36 – He's ok, i know he is...he has to be. I leaned my back against the car and slid down to the ground, sobbing with relief. I wasn’t sure what I had been expecting to see inside the car…but there had been nothing. There was still hope…maybe he’d gotten out… Maybe he was ok after all… I sat there for a few minutes until I regained my composure. Then, I got up and looked around, unsure of what to do next. I heard a soft, far-away moan. “Nathan?” I heard the noise again and ran around to the other side of the car. Haley was laying on the grass beside it, crying softly. “Haley!” I screamed, and ran over to her. “Lily…” She whispered softly. I kneeled down next to her. She was very pale, and had a small gash on her left cheek. She was awake though. “Haley! What happened?” “I don’t…I don’t know…the car just…Nathan…Everything started spinning…and now I’m here…” She coughed slightly. “Haley…Where’s Nathan?” She looked up at me nervously. “I don’t know.” I bit my lip and tried to figure out what to do next. “Ok…Umm…Just…Just stay here, ok? Don’t try to move around or anything. I’m gonna go get help.” I got up and headed back over to my car. I grabbed my cell phone and called 911, explained where I was, and hung up. I started walking back over to the car and Haley when I saw, out of the corner of my eye, a bright blue flash. I turned towards it and took a closer look at the object; which was about fifty feet from the car, on the edge of the woods. Not believing what I was seeing, I ran over to it and picked it up. It was Nathan’s favorite jacket; the very same one he had been wearing when he’d left the house earlier. But it was different now… it was shredded and torn, and had large, crimson red patches all over it. “No…” I whispered. He couldn’t have been wearing it when it had gotten all torn up; he must have taken it off, I thought to myself. He had to have taken it off. I held the jacket to my chest and screamed his name. The only reply I got was the rumbling of the cars on the road, and the chirping of birds in the trees nearby. I ran blindly into the woods, and ran frantically through the trees, screaming for Nathan. Why isn’t he answering me? “Nathan?! Nathan! This isn’t fucking funny anymore!” I yelled. “Where are you?! You fucking jerk! Answer me!” I started crying once again. “Nathan, why are you doing this? This isn’t cool!” I fell to my knees, sobbing uncontrollably. "Nathan…" I whispered. “Nathan…please answer me…I need you.” I cried softly. Then, I looked up, and saw through my tears a blurred figure sitting a few feet in front of me. It was leaning up against one of the trees, and had short, dark hair and white sneakers. Nathan.
