in this context, this particular one and some that are mildly qualitatively different,

uncertainty is the most terrifying of fears

Then wouldn't death really be the biggest fear, because it is the biggest uncertainty we live with. We never know when our time will come and yet it is unavoidable. So its like we are moving forward into uncertainty because the position our own finitude puts us in to general.
