Nathan smaked him as soon as Jamie was out of reach. "You got the hots for her, don't even deny it."
"Godamnit. Is it that obvious?"
"Yeah, you and the whole world. It's nothing new. But don't expect much. She doesn't date."
"I don't expect anything."
"Good." Spoke Nathan, casually, but not exactly believing Shawn.
Nathan opened the refridgerater, feeling the heat of Shawn's eyes on him. He knew what question he wanted the answer to.
Nathan laughed a little, then turned his face lazily to Shawn.
"...She doesn't date because," He took a swing of milk from the bottle. "...Because she went through a lot of shit in the past few years."
"Explain." Whispered Shawn. He knew he was on very thin ice, asking this question. He hoped the answer wasn't what it probably would turn out to be.
"This asshole..." began Nathan, "my friend, actually... His name was Adam. Nice guy and everything. So he liked her. They went out. Four months and she's in love with him. And this guy just completly..."
Shawn's phone vibrated through his back pocket. He looked at the name. It read: BRIAN. His thoughts were ruined by the reminder of his mind. He pressed the red phone, disconnecting the call.
"Continue, please."
"...yeah so he tell ME, her own brother, that he was just staying with her to see if she would give him anything."
Shawn winced. Sex ruins everything.
Nathan began, but frowning. "So I tell her. And she was so brainwashed, she wouldn't listen to me. She was in complete denial. She fell for everything he said. He loved her in the beginning, but love leads to shit. She didn't give him what he wanted, either. My sisters too smart for that shit, ya know? So he didn't want to live with the embarassment of getting dumped, so he lied straight to her fucking face."
Nathan paused for a breath of air. "She asked him if he loved her, and he said Yes. YES. She believed him. A good fuckin lier, I must say." He drank milk a little faster this time, "She loved that asshole until he dumped her."
Shawn was almost deaf at this point.
