Gather round and I will tell you a tale of long ago when families ate dinner together. They would sit in the same room and tell each other about their days. There was no such thing as eating alone or family dissolution (divorce). Ah the early 1900’s. What a time to live in.
What brought about this little bit of randomness you may wonder? Tonight, I am going to be eating dinner with my family. The ENTIRE family. A feat that is normally only achieved on holidays and birthdays. Why you may wonder (I know I wondered for a few minutes myself)?
It is a kind of family affirmation. We’re together, we’re alive, and no little punk is going to break us down. We need to be around each other, even if it’s only for a few hours to remind ourselves, that it is not the possessions we care about, it is the person each represented.
So, tonight we gather at Gran’s house. We will break bread, and pass the baby around for cuddles. We’ll talk of work and school and things of joy. We’ll stay late even when we know we’re going to miss our favorite television program, or have to stay up even later to get ahead on assignments. We’ll stay, because we need to remember.
Ending words of wisdom: Possessions can be replaced, but family and love, never can be.
