IF YOU KNEW ME If you knew me [the way I thought you did] You'd know that I cry about you every night And that I was all alone; in need of your love. You'd know that I want us to be together more than anything And that I hold on tight to hopes undreamed of. If you knew me [the way I wanted you to] You'd know that I was up waiting just to hear your voice One last time before I closed my eyes. You'd know that not hearing from you would ruin my days ahead And you'd run to rescue me of my internal cries. If you knew me [the way I wish you would] You'd care that I couldn't fall asleep And you'd take the time to call. You'd be sure to look me in the eye just to say "I do love you" With the smart ass joke afterwards and all. If you knew me [the way that I know you] You'd know that I am in of need loving the most when I am down And YOU would be the one who was there for me. You'd know that I long to hear the words "I will always be your shoulder to cry on, that's a guar-an-tee." If you knew me [enough to care] I'm sure you would know that I need you to be there Just to listen or to make me smile. And you would most certainly understand that you make living this life all worthwhile. If you knew me [the way I thought you always would] You'd know that I don't like to be touched But that I love it when you place your hands on my hips when we kiss. You'd know that I need to be reassured of how much you care Because I need to know that people like you really do exist. If you knew me [the way I hope you do] You'd know that I was unsure of whether or not I really have you 'all to myself' And that the only thing about you that I feel belongs to me are our memories and "yet-to-comes" combined. But somehow you'd always make the time to tell me why I am so special So that I wouldn't continue on without your name on my mind. If you knew me [the way that someone like you should] You'd know that I truly meant it when I replied with "I love you, too!" And you'd completely be aware of the fact that it came straight from the heart. You wouldn't question how much I care or what you really mean to me Because you would already know that the answer is "...I feel incomplete every second we are apart." If you knew me [enough to know to be there] You'd know that you have the power to make and break this fragile heart And you'd know that I know you know how to take advantage of that. See... this is why I wrote this poem Because it helps me in my struggle with my own 'self vs.self' combat. If you knew me [in a way that I wouldn't have to question these things] I know you'd know exactly how hard and how fast I've fallen for you And how I think you aren't ready and far too ill prepared to handle all of it. You would already be sure that you are on my mind every morning, noon, and night But that I would never say these words aloud, because I feel you are unwilling to commit. IF you knew me [enough to really, a.c.t.u.a.l.l.y KNOW me] Than you would *aLrEaDy* know that I am in love with you But for now (((because of all this))) I must learn to make do ~without you~.
