I don't know what its like to be discouraged by your parents. To be looked upon I guess.. as a 'worthless excuse of existence', if I were to be extreme in the essence of bad parenting; it must be hard to break through such lack of ... love. Love yourself though, I'd say. You're capable and there isn't anyone who is dare allowed to say otherwise.
And whether you're a believer in religion - God - or not.. it's taught that 'we honour our father and mother'. Hard to do when they lack the love to show you the way.. but.. who's to say you're lacking the love to show them the way? We choose to be the better man or woman for one reason alone; because we can.
