Listening to: Here We Go - Grits
I had to work today in the pouring rain. It was kinda yucky, but it wasn't as bad as it's been before. It has rained the last three Fridays in a row, and the only reason I remember that is because I work outdoors. I was in the van with Shawn and Danny when it started really pouring. Shawn practiced parallel parking and then he said, "I guess we should go pick up Kristin. Alright, Rachel, get out." I made indignant noises, so he handed me a security raincoat and dropped me off in Lot 21.
Soon after getting off work I headed down to Kimberly's room. She did my hair for the dance while we watched "27 Dresses". Awesome movie! I felt like we had lots of time, but for some reason we were really rushed to get there by 18:00. I managed to do my own make-up in record time without stabbing my own eye out. Finally we got to the restaurant (it was still raining) and changed into our dresses in the bathroom.
At first it was kinda awkward because Kimberly and I didn't really know very many people. But we sat with two people that we didn't know and ended up talking to them during the meal. They were Tim and Lindsay. After we ate, the rest of the group got up to dance. I took awhile for us to get into it, but once we started dancing it was a lot of fun. A few of us were inventing ridiculous dance moves out of household appliances, chores, etc. Hence the title, awkward pterodactyl. I actually enjoyed myself more than I thought I would. I got some great pictures!
The dance finished up about 22:00, and Kimberly was not ready to go home yet. So the two of us went to Blockbuster and Wal-Mart. Yes, in our formal dresses, and it was still raining. Kimberly's ex-boyfriend, Chris, was working at Blockbuster. It was kinda funny to watch them interact. It wasn't exactly awkward, just funny.
At Wal-Mart, I bought some ginger ale to nurse my ever-worsening cold. And the seam of my dress along the back zipper ripped. It's sad, but fixable. At least it got to have another night out.
I'm really looking forward to CRU next year, to meet new people and maybe find my fit. I think it will be a better fit than Intervarsity. Andrew said he tried CRU but left because he wasn't enough of a party animal. I told him that I'm too much of a party animal for IV, so maybe CRU is right where I should be. I heard rumors of a Bible study this summer, so maybe I'll check that out. I'm going to the CRU picnic on Tuesday, and I'm excited for that.
