Chapter 21 – Maybe I Should Have Said Something…
At first when I woke up, I kept my eyes shut tightly. I was afraid of what I’d see when I opened them.
It was a dream, I told myself firmly. When I open my eyes, Nathan will be right there beside me.
I opened my eyes.
I was in a room that clearly belonged to a guy, laying on what had to be his bed. Oh shit, I thought. What the hell have I gotten myself into?
Then I remembered Steve, and I started crying. What the hell did he do to me?
The door opened. I looked up at the person that walked in and gasped. He looked just like Damien.
The guy that walked in had spiky brown hair and bright green eyes. He was tall and thin, and he was wearing long black pants with a blue T-shirt. If he hadn’t reminded me of Damien so much, I probably would’ve thought he was hot. One thing was for sure; it wasn’t Steve. He looked at me and walked quickly over to the bed.
“Hey, you’re up.†He sounded relieved.
I edged away from him slowly. I wasn’t sure I should trust him.
“Hey it’s ok, you’re safe.†He said soothingly.
“What happened? Where am I?â€
“You are at my house. As far as what happened… Why don’t you tell me?â€
“Well…†I struggled to remember. “I was at a club, talking to this guy… And he kept buying me drinks. And I think he slipped me something, cuz he started kissing me and stuff, and I couldn’t move. Then, he dragged me into a room, and… I passed out.â€
“Ok. Well, he definitely slipped you something, because you’ve been out for two days.â€
“Shit…â€
“But don’t worry… He didn’t do anything to you. No one did.â€
“But how do you-â€
“I heard you screaming for help, and I saw him dragging you into the room. I got rid of him, and I brought you here, where you’ve been sleeping for the past few days.â€
I looked at him gratefully. “Thank you so much.â€
“You’re welcome.â€
“How can I ever thank you?â€
“Don’t worry about it.†He said casually.
“But you saved my life.â€
“I’m just glad I found you before he got to you.â€
“Well, at least tell me who you are then.â€
“Kayje. Kayje Raymond.â€
“Kayje…†The name was vaguely familiar. “Wait, are you Kaira’s brother?â€
“Yeah! You know her?â€
“Yeah, she’s my best friend.â€
“Uh…Shit, umm… That would probably make you Lily then, wouldn’t it?â€
“Yeah…†I said slowly, giving him a confused look.
“Shit… She’s gonna kill me then.â€
“Who?â€
“Kaira!â€
“Why?â€
“Lily, you left your house without telling anyone where you were going, you didn’t take your cell phone, you’ve been missing for two days, and everyone’s been worried sick about you, especially your boyfriend and my sister. They’ve been everywhere looking for you. When I tell her that you’ve been here the whole time… it’s not gonna be pretty.â€
“Oh shit… Why didn’t you tell her I was here? She told me that you guys were close.â€
“We are, but she’s just been so worked up over you being missing that I didn’t want to add to it.â€
“Didn’t you think that it was kind of a coincidence that you found me at the same place that they found my car?â€
“She never told me which bar they found it at though, she just said it was a bar.â€
I rolled my eyes. Boys could be so stupid. “Well… Maybe you should go get her.â€
He got up and left the room for a few minutes, and I could hear him talking to someone. There was a very high-pitched scream, and Kaira ran into the room.
“Lily! Oh my fuckin god!†she turned around and yelled out the door “Kayje, I’m going to kill you for this!†then she turned back to me, looking relieved. “I’m so glad you’re ok! You really scared us… We looked everywhere for you, and we called the police, and we found your car at that club, and the bartender said he saw you leave with some guy…â€
I hugged her. “Kaira, I am so sorry for all this.â€
“It’s ok Lily, I’m just glad you’re safe.â€
I pulled away after a minute. “Can I use your phone? I really need to call Nathan.â€
“Oh yeah, sure.†She picked up the phone, then rolled her eyes and put it back down. “Hang on.â€
She got up and walked over to the door. “Riko! Get off the fuckin computer!â€
“Why?†A guy shouted back.
“Cuz I need the phone. Now get off, it’s important.â€
She closed the door and picked up the phone again. After checking for a dial tone, She handed it to me. “I hate having brothers.â€
I dialed Nathan’s number. Jake answered.
“Hello?â€
“Jake?â€
“Lily! You’re ok! That’s so cool!â€
“Yes Jake, it’s awesome. Now where’s Nathan?â€
“He’s out looking for you… I think… Or was that yesterday?â€
“Thanks Jake.†I hung up and dialed Nathan’s cell phone number.
“Hello?â€
“Nathan…†I sighed. I was so relieved to hear his voice again.
“Lily!†He said, sounding relieved and slightly surprised. “Thank god you’re ok. What happened? I’ve been so worried about you!â€
“I know, and I’m so sorry. I never meant to scare you… I just couldn’t take it anymore…â€
“Don’t worry about that right now. Are you at Kaira’s?â€
“Yeah.â€
“Ok, stay there, I’m coming to get you.â€
I waited for a few minutes until I heard his car pull up, and hurried outside. He got out and ran over to me, and I jumped into his arms, clinging tightly to him.
I never wanted to leave him again.
He held onto me, with his eyes closed and tears falling silently down his cheeks. I wiped them away gently.
“Nathan, it’s ok! I’m fine now!â€
“I was so afraid that I’d never see you again.†He said sadly.
“Nathan… I will never leave you again, I promise.†I looked into his eyes. “And I didn’t leave that bar with some guy. I would never do anything like that to you.†Now I was crying, too.
“I know.†He said, kissing me.
We stayed there for a few more minutes, just holding each other. Then I pulled away gently and led him inside so that Kaira and Kayje could help explain what had happened.
