I heard someone call my name from downstairs. I ran to the railing and it was Marcus. He ran upstairs "Are you okay?" he asked with a really worried look on his face. "Yah I am okay." I answered. "I’m scared!" I just started bawling. "It’s okay. It’s okay there is nothing to be scared of." said Marcus as he wrapped his arms around me. I could hardly here him because of the rain and thunder. We spent the rest of the night in my bedroom because there was no way we would be getting out of the house with the streets flooded with water. I put batteries in my clock so we could listen to the radio. Apparently a hurricane that was miles away from the coast changed directions without warning. I fell asleep and when I woke up I saw the sun shining through my bedroom window. I looked around and saw Marcus sleeping on my window seat. I crept out of bed and walked out of my room scared of what I might find downstairs. I got to the railing and looked over. It was fine. No water, no mess, no nothing. I walked downstairs and opened my basement door. "Damn" I mumbled to myself. The basement was flooded and everything was everywhere. There were leaves and parts of trees everywhere. "Whoa!" I heard Marcus from behind me. I walked over to the window in my living room and looked outside. The streets were draining slowly and there was debris everywhere. I checked to see if my power was on and sure enough it was. I called my Dad in SanFransisco and asked him what I should do.
"Hello?"
"Hi Dad, how are you?"
"I’m okay. Are you okay? I was just about to call."
"Yah I’m fine but the basement isn’t!"
"It’s flooded isn’t it?"
"Yah..."
"Okay sit tight Jayme, I will get someone to come and help you with it. I just have to make a few calls and there should be someone there ASAP!"
"Alright thanks Daddy!"
"No problem. Now I have to go and get someone to help with the basement. I love you and I should be home in the next week or so hopefully."
"I love you to Dad. Bye!"
"Bye Jayme."
"Alright Jayme, I better get going Jayme. I’ll talk to you later." said Marcus getting his shoes on. "Okay, thanks for everything!" I said and lent over to kiss him. He backed away, "Jayme I don’t think it is going to work between us. I’m sorry you are a great person but you just aren’t my type." said Marcus as he walked out the door. I just stood there not knowing exactly what happened. Over the next week workmen were in and out of my house draining my basement, cleaning our property and fixing up the outside of the house. Before I knew it, it was Wednesday. I drove to school and walked to my locker. I opened my locker and someone came up beside me. It was Kevin. "Hi Jayme, since the party couldn’t happen last Friday it is going to be this Friday. So do you think you would still be able to come?" "Of course I’ll still be able to come, Kevin." I flashed him a smile and went to first period/Homeroom. I found Nikole and Dasa and sat down with them. They already knew what happened with the whole Marcus thing. Then the P.A. came on. "This is to all cheerleaders that our first meeting will be held at lunch. See you all there." It was the voice of the grade 12 captain Fiona. "So girl’s I’ll meet you in the gym at lunch for the meeting." I asked. All three of us, Dasa, Nikole and I were all cheerleaders. The bell rang and we all went to second period. It flew by and before you knew it, it was lunch. I walked into the gym and saw Fiona and a couple of the grade 12 cheerleaders standing with her. I ran over and gave them all hugs. I hadn’t seen them since last summer. Nikole and Dasa came and a couple others including Cara all came. "So girls are we ready to start another fabulous season!" asked Fiona. "YAH!" we all screamed back. There was about 15 girls and 7 guys on the squad. "Now I have a surprise for you all. We got new uniforms!" shouted Fiona as her friend Georgia walked out with a huge box. The uniforms were white and blue and they were gorgeous.
