spam i am

Today was my twentieth birthday. Some days I feel it, and some days I don't. Today I didn't. But the truth is the same; I'm twenty today. Crazy! I wore my birthday dress. :) My mom had an eye appointment today, so afterwards she couldn't see very well. I ended up driving all day, as usual. I don't mind. I love driving. We took 218 down to Austin and went to the SPAM museum. I was there four years ago on a road trip with Josh and Jessica. It seems so long ago, and yet it seems like it could have been as recently as last month. Maybe that's part of why I felt a little like I was sixteen today. I called both Kyle and Jacob, because they both live in/around Austin and I was in town, but neither of them answered their phones. I even dropped by HyVee because I knew Jacob was working, but I didn't know he was in the garden department, so I never saw him. Later we talked on the phone and realized how close we had been. Oh well. His turn to come to Owatonna now, which will happen tomorrow if everything works out! The SPAM museum was just as I remembered it: fun, short, and more than a little wacky. We got some great pictures, watched the "SPAM: A Love Story" video, and explored the interactive bits of the museum. My favorite part was either the mock supermarket, or putting on the Hormel uniform. I bought a SPAM shirt and a can of SPAM at the gift shop. I plan to fry it up with brown sugar and 7-UP as they reportedly do in the Philippines, according to one of the exhibits at the museum. After the SPAM museum, Mom and I went across the street to a local restaurant called "Jerry's Other Place." I had a fish sandwich; usually I'm really not a fish person but it sounded good today, and it was delicious. We had a view of the Red Cedar River from our table; apparently four years ago September it flooded most of the area. We took a look around the Oak Park Mall (I think that's what it's called) and HyVee (looking for Jacob, of course - not that I'm a stalker or anything) before heading back to Owatonna, where we stopped at Dairy Queen to get an ice cream birthday cake. Chance called me to wish me happy birthday, which totally made my day! I mean, I had like four pages of posts on my Facebook wall, but people who really know me should know that it makes all the difference to make a short phone call so I can hear their voice and talk back to them directly, rather than joining the masses and leaving two generic words that any stranger could say. Not that I don't like getting the messages on Facebook; I'll have you know I responded personally to every single person who left me a birthday message on my wall. I just really appreciated the five people who wished me happy birthday over the phone: Chance, Josh, Cassandra, Neil, and Jacob. In that order. Jacob and I played phone tag a little, but I called him back at around 21:45 and we organized plans for tomorrow. It turns out I'll be going up to the Mall of America with him tomorrow! I'm really excited. Kinda like an extension of my birthday with some friends from Crossroads. I miss it already; I know it's only going to get worse this summer. I found out Jacob is thinking of transferring to the U of MN. I'm not pleased. I hope he ends up coming back to MSU. Oh well. Right now all I'm thinking about is how much fun tomorrow has the potential to be.
