Terri Schiavo should live. I really dislike our government. I think God should pull an "in your face" and keep her alive and make her healthy again. That would be so awesome.
So, yesterday, at the optometrist's, Dr. Gutmaker started talking to my mom about government. He's a strong left-winger. I've always liked him. So, he said something like "Well, all of those idiots voted for him" and I said "Like my mom". And he turned to my mom and said "Why?" and told me not to say anything because I was being nasty. Haha. So, she kept saying she had a "bad taste in her mouth" for the democratic party after Clinton, and Gutmaker started attacking her with valid points, like who cares what he's done in his personal life? That's not our business. He kept going and going until finally, she had nothing left to say. No excuses. It was so glorious. She ended the conversation with "Well, uh, I don't really like to get into politics too much. I don't really know a lot about those things." I was like "Yessssss". I had always called her ignorant, and she would always tell me that she knows exactly what she's talking about, and she has her facts straight. My favorite part went something like this:
Dr. G: He lied to the American people when he said he had reasonable cause to believe that there were WMDs in Iraq. Then, all of a sudden he decided that their mission all along was to improve thier government. Think of all the other countries that are under dictators. Iraq is hardly a top priority.
Mom: Well, Clinton lied to the American people.
Dr. G: So? If your husband had done that to you, and he was asked to admit it in front of the entire country and you, do you think he would come right out and say he did it? It's none of our business whether he did it or not anyway. It has nothing to do with his being president. And, Ashley, did you know that you owe $35,000 to the government? That's what national debt is. Every man, woman, and child in this country owes thousands and thousands of dollars to our government. Isn't that nice?
Mom: I think our government has a system of checks and balances strong enough to assure that no horrible decisions will be made.
Me: THEY ALREADY HAVE BEEN MADE!
Dr. G: Shut up, Ashley.
All this because my mom thinks social security should be abolished.
