At about ten, Sam left Braedan's before everyone else did saying she was a little tired and how she had passed out on the beach the night before and it didn't really count as a good sleep.
She slowly walked through empty streets thinking. She hated her mind sometimes. Thinking too much sometimes led to no sleep or blanking out on a test. After her brother died she went to a therapist who said she was a complusive introvert, or a complusive thinker, which sometimes would lead to blanking out or not paying attention. All her teachers knew about it and if she handed in a test without answering any of the questions they knew they had to let her re-write it.
It sometimes came to her advantage at times. The only friend that knew was Alex and she wanted to keep it that way.
She didn't even tell Nate about it.
When she got home she walked to the back and sat down on the sand again. Sam flipped open her cellphone and the clock read 12:04.
"Whoa it took me an hour to walk home." She thought to herself.
She sat there for about ten minutes until she heard someone walking up behind her. She turned around, sending her blonde hair flipping behind her. It was braedan.
"Hey Braedan." She said turning back to the ocean.
"Hey." He sat down beside her and pulled his knee's close to his chest. "Are you okay? You didn't seem like yourself tonight."
"Yeah I'm fine." She said smiling.
"Alex told me about your friend comming."
"She can't keep her mouth shut about anything can she?" Sam laughed, pushing the blonde peices that were too short for her ponytail out of her face.
"No she can't. Well I just came by to see if you got home alright, you weren't answering your cell."
Sam flipped open her cellphone and to her surprise she had 3 missed calls.
"Sorry, I must not have heard it."
They sat on the beach until about 3 o'clock talking about everything. It felt good to talk to him again. He wasn't like Alex, he just listened without giving any critism at all. That's when she thought it was time to tell him about what the therapist told her. He just starred at her.
"I know it's weird but that's why I have been zoning out a lot lately."
He nodded his head.
"I knew something wasn't right." He said.
"Sam, you changed after Ri passed away. Everyone realized it."
"I know I did, and now I wish I could just let it go, but I feel so guilty, I feel like it was my fault I didn't see any of the signs." Tears started to roll down her cheeks and she couldn't hold back.
"Sam, he was my best friend and you know that, it's just when we started going to SM he changed and no one could get him to go back to normal. Not you, not me, not corey, not anyone. There was no way you could have recognized it, and if you think it was your fault then we are all to blame because none of us saw it comming."
It was true, Riley and Braedan were best friends. That's why Sam and Braedan were so close. After they started high school Riley started drifting away from Braedan and Sam. It even got so bad one day Riley and Braedan got in a fight between classes and ended up getting each other suspended for three days.
There was nothing either of them could do.
"You just have to accept it Sam, you can miss him, but you just have to realize it wasn't your fault." Braedan was right.
She nodded her head and stood up off the sand.
"I should try and get some sleep."
"Kay." Braedan stood up and wiped the sand of his shorts.
She gave him a hug and stood there for a second. He just squeezed her tight. He never felt anything for Sam except a friendship stronger then anything. Although they let it slip one night, they were always going to be friends.
"Bye Sam."
She waved and walked into her house. The doors were never locked.
Sam walked to her small bedroom and closed the door. Shuffling through the clothes that were piled all over her floor, she made it to her bed, lied down, and was out within two minutes.
