School of Punk Rock

Alright, after a less-than-subtle reminder from one of my good friends, I have decided to update this, on the off chance that people other then her actually read this. Anyway, wanted to go on a little rant to you people today about Punk Rock, and how nobody today seems to know what the fuck punk rock is. First, bands like Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Blink 182, and New Found Glory, although very good musically in some cases, are NOT, repeat NOT punk. They're pop music, and no matter how many different beats Blink 182 tries to put in there...they're still pop. I'm not saying that they're not good, I'm just saying that there's a huge difference between what punk is and what people think punk is. There are certain ways of determining if you're listening to punk music or not. First off, if the lead singer is mildly attractive, and he's talking about the problems with finding a date, not only is he not punk, but he's also full of it. Second, if any group EVER talks about high school as the "good old days", they're not punk. No self-respecting punk rocker would ever wish they were back in high school and keep a straight face. Also, if you're not listening to Green Day, Violent Femmes, Sex Pistols, The Clash, and to some extent, early Bowling for Soup, you're probably not listening to punk music. That's not to say that it's not good music, it's just don't look at Benji and Joel from Good Charlotte and say that they're punk! They're posing on the cover of teen magazines! That's not punk! That's basically the antithesis of almost everything punk. But anyway, enough about that, not a damn thing has been new with me, aside from doing the work thing. I've been writing stand-up for the past couple of weeks, and finally have the 5-10 minutes of material you need for an open mic night at a comedy club, so I'm gonna probably try out for one of those either next weekend or the weekend after. In other news, nobody who I talk to ever wants to hang out! When did people become anti-social!? I mean, you're only guaranteed a few years here why not make the most of it? I mean, it's not like they're just not hanging out with me...it's like, not hanging out with ANYBODY. I don't know, it's weird, maybe it's me. Anyway, I've run out of things to talk about, and betting that no one really reads this thing anyway, I'd just like to end by saying that women are MUCH bigger when it comes to being a tease then men, and I'm outta here. JEFF: What's it mean in a dream when you die? PAT: Maybe it's an omen. JEFF: Is it a good omen? PAT: You don't know what an omen is, do you?

thank god someone has clarified what punk is and what punk isnt. there is such a dilluted concept of what punk is floating around in the mainstream. i would say that the only real punk bands out these days are pretty underground. theyre not crappy teeny bopper bands. im listening to the clash right now. i agree, the behavior of these bands like Good charlotte or blink 182 are really the antithesis of true punk rock.
