Well. I worked today. Rather boring actually but in theory The Barn is an interesting place to work. I mean you get to interact with many different people plus I have this tendancy to look beyond just their acting.
You can tell what their lifestyle reflects by what products they buy.
Buisness Women or Home Makers tend to buy a lot of processed things because they have kids and a lot to do and they don't have enough time/patience to put together some elaborate meal. Not necessarily unhealthy just affordable and practical. Many also tend to buy things in bulk and things that kids would enjopy eating like tacos and cookies.
College/University kids/parents tend to buy things that are easily microwaved/prepared. Things like canned goods and ships are always priorities on their list.
Anyone who buys bags of ice [The Single Most Annoying Code EVER! 7363900027? I think.. if that's right I'm jumping for joy literally] and big bags of chips/pop/charcoal/big fruit or veggie trays/cakes and such are having parties or people over.
You get the people who just don't care.. pay with their debit and don't ask for receipts.
You see the woman that are health nuts buying only soy milk and veggies or foods with 10 calories or less. Women after my own heart I tell you.
Then you get the devoted boyfriends/husbands that truly love their wives who come in late at night to get a tub of icecream and tampons. Sometimes you have to wish all guys were like that. They come up and pay quickly not even asking for a bag although they do have the embarrassed look on their faces. But you just want to run to their houses and tell their significant other how lucky they are to have one that would do that for them.
You get people comming in who are having a bad day and they usualy forget something or another and they have to run back and get an item. Or you see them ten minutes later with the thing they probably came to the store for in their hands ready to pay for it.
Or you have the plain bitchy customers who you tell off.. I've made that mistake once. They don't say thank-you. They forget to tell you they want a fucking cash-back until you've already programmed in the price and such. And if it's really busy like it was today they just stand there and wait for you to pack up their bags AND put it in their carts. I hate these customers.
My favourite customers though are old women comming in usualy buying enough for two people at the very most. Fruits and vegetables that are reduced in price. A small tray of meat with a coupon sticker on it [Some products in the store have these coupons that takes a certain price off your bill]. Simple bran cereals or oatmeal and simple cakes and pastries again with the coupon stickers. Small cartons of milk and maybe even a small thing of candy or chocolate.. sometimes crackers or sweet cookies especially if their husbands are their with them. OH and pretty much everything if not everything is on sale and they ALWAYS have their coupon book and they ask for the next weeks flyers. Most of the time people ask for next weeks flyers you have to go and pick them out of the back because they havn't been sent out yet but you can't say no because they are so cute.
And they always bring back their used grocery bags and get 30 some odd cents off their bills because they want to save the environment.
They also tend to ask for everything to be double bagged because they are walking or for you to pick out the right change out of their change purses because they either can't see or don't want to hold up the line, or when they ask you to read a label to make sure they have gotten the right thing. It's especially cute when they start talking to you on a slow day and ask how are your grades and what you have planned for the summer.
And then when I answer them they have this huge smile accross their faces. It makes working there worth-wile.

Then you get people who yell at you because you don't know what they are talking about or when you forget to ask for their air miles card.
One guy asked me where the washroom was and I would have loved to see the look on my face..
Here's me.. "Uhhhhhhhhh. Shannon where is the bathroom?"
I fucking hate the buns. They all look the same yet they are all different prices and some customers get mad when you enter in the wrong price and GOD FORBID you do that [20 cents difference? Maybe that?]
Then like you can't tell the fucking difference between the 9283742987347234 different kinds of lettuce and cabbage and some customers get mad when you ask what kind they are saying that you should know them you work here and then when I say I'm new and havn't decifered the full difference between everything they say well I don't know.. this was the one time i snapped at someone.. It was some grouchy lady and I told her WELL YOU ARE BUYING IT SO YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT IT IS YOUR BUYING.. Shirley laughed at me after she left in a huff saying I should be fired and she told me that that lady comes in all the time and gives them a hard time. She even yelled at them over christmas for being closed on christmas day.
Yeah.
Strange I know.
And it's annoying when thing's don't scan.
And they people who work there are really nice.
All in all. It's a good job.
And I got an Air Miles card from it.
And the money is good.
I know everyone was just waiting for me to admit that.
