Listening to: New Radicals - Someday we\'ll know
Having fully recovered from my ear infection, I was struck by a bout of food poisoning two days ago. I haven't vomitted in years, but I went 6 times on Friday. I've never been drunk nor carsick before, but I can now honestly say that I've had the experience of having to vomit out my car door. It's a good thing I had my sister with me; I was so panicked at the thought of having to puke before reaching home (we were on the way back from the clinic, my sister had food posining too!), that the only way I could think of to get rid of all that queasiness I was feeling inside me was to puke all over myself. But thanks to her urgings ("Quick, Na, open the door!!"), all that nasty curry that I'd eaten at my aunt's Hari Raya open house ended up on the road instead of on me.
Sick.
Because only the two of us fell victim to food poisoning, none of our other family members (apart from our immediate family members) believe that it was the caterer's killer curry that had gotten to us. Really, there shouldn't be any doubt about it. The contents of our puke speaketh for itself.
Okay, no more mention of puke.
I watched The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring for the very first time earlier tonight. I'm like that, you see, I'm not a movie buff, so I don't go to the cinema much. I'm quite content to wait for the HBO premieres. Anyway, I'm not trying to commit blasphemy, but I think if given the proper motivation and effort, I could uncover a few parallels between the Fellowship and some parables in the Koran. I'm not likening the Koran to a work of fiction, but perhaps Mr Tolkien studied the Holy Book and was inspired by it? Or is it just a coincidence, and I've let my imagination run too far? Any takers on this?
I passed all of my exams, by the way. There will be no repeating of subjects for me! Wooohoo!
All right well. I'm ghost.
Glad your exams went good though.
I've never studied the Koran so I'm not sure what parallels you're thinking of. However, I do think that Tolkien wanted LOTR to be all-encompassing in the religious aspect. I'm Catholic and I see much Catholic symbolism, but I also see aspects of other religions as well. That's why Tolkien's so awesome...
I hope you feel better soon.
