The Chant

Feeling: distant
this is my story of... The Dance at Richfield Chris invited us since we were coming down to go to his Senior Ball. So Emily and I packed our dresses and headed out. The trip was fun and we had dinner at a great steak place and then we changed for the dance. Chris had arranged so that his friend Mario would be there to help even the ratio a little so i'd have someone to dance/talk to when Emily and Chris would be off doing whatever. The point of the thing was to dance... that's what everyone was there for. So i danced. Girls would start to look at me and i wouldn't care. Some girls thought they could make fun of me, and they'd come up behind me and try to dance. and i'd turn around and try to actually dance with them. they moved quickly. i had a large space around me, and some people would just watch. Then some guys on the other side of the room started to throw ice at me. I saw it miss me and then one hit me on the cheek. Right under the eye. I turned and looked at those boys. held one guys eyes for a moment and then i pulled out all the stops. i fought back by danceing. I had fury in my moves now and i wasn't stopping. The dance had a grand total of 5 slow songs. 3 were at the very end. i spent the 1st one with Mario but we really didn't have much to talk about since we'd spent most of the dance earlier talking, so it turned awkward. the 2nd was with a guy who obiviously was nervous and a girl (his friend) pushed him to me and told him to ask me. and he didn't really want to talk to me. The 3rd dance was a guy named Shawn Phipps. He didn't really ask just walked over and started to dance with me. (finally a guy who wanted to dance) we talked and i quite enjoyed it. Then after the end of the song we continued our talk and a large portion of the guys at the dance started shouting and chanting. I asked Shawn what they were doing and he shrugged his shoulders. Then they started Chanting his name... Shawn Shawn Shawn... and i knew it was because he danced with me... because he came and did what they didn't. i was impressed by the guy when he asked me to dance... and i don't think i'll ever forget how they chanted his name.
