i suppose it's time for an update.
i'm still sick, which i can thank my job for. that building is in terrible shape; i was almost fully recovered last monday, which i'd had off due to cancellation, but when i went into work on tuesday, my cold came back. my chest is quite congested, and i've not been able to stop coughing.
i can directly attribute it to work because of a few things.
the air quality in that building is horrid; i'm sure there's mould growing behind the walls. they've had flooding on more than one occasion and simply put fans directed at the floor while the building remains closed up. windows would be nice, and it'd be a swell change to see real carpet that isn't duct-taped together every few feet. cleaning the air ducts and vents would be exceptional; the one in the ladies' alone has dust-and-dirt strands hanging from it.
i feel like i should wear a doctor's mask or something.
at any rate, work itself seems to be back to normal; we've got new projects in, not to mention a flood of 'temp workers': both common this time of year. the supervisor's even back to being patronising, which settles things as we were all wondering when her fake congeniality would finally burn out.
we still haven't finished cleaning the flat. the bedroom is well sorted, but the rest needs straightening up. i think we'll have to get to that this week, though, as today is going to be quite busy.
we're going to do the scenic drive again so i can try to get some fall photos; we did that last year and it was one of the nicest days we'd had. i'm not sure if the colours will all be out yet; i've gotten mike to agree to going next weekend too, though, just in case they haven't changed. hehe
i've also got to pick up my mail, finish the invitations & get together with the advisor for a party i'm having, and, most importantly, visit my nan in hospital.
she's apparently taken quite ill again. she was brought to the ER yesterday, sent home, and then picked up by ambulance again in the eve after pushing her lifeline pendant...and then sent home, and then rushed in again this morning.
she'll be there for a few days, as the doctors are quite worried for her. as am i.
she'll be 90 on 23 october; she's a tough bird and has been through this before, but i'm always on edge over it because we're never sure what the outcome will be.
i got one of my three parcels, and i can't wait for the other two. i'm a book fanatic, and i found three i wanted for considerably less than the listed prices. (one of which is normally $40-$50 american and i'm getting it for $7.30 USD!!! swellllllll.)
(mike's been looking at some modifications for the interior of his car [most notably the gauges/dash board and a new shifter], so i figured i'd spend a bit on myself, too. three books for about $25USD isn't bad at all.)
anyhow, the parcel that came was it's a wonderful christmas: the best of the holidays 1940 - 1965 by susan waggoner. very hard book to find, apparently, so i really 'lucked-out.'
i'm planning on bringing it along when we go to see my grandmother, as i know she'll love it. our family is rather fond of christmas, and the time period is a favourite of mine; i'm sure it'll inspire some memories on her part. (= i always ask her a lot of questions, and she seems to enjoy talking about the differences between then and now (and i like hearing about them).
it's a bit late by this point, so i'm going to wake mike & get ready to leave. i am so tired, as mum rang early to tell me about nan (grateful for that though!) and i hadn't fallen asleep until the wee morning.
i think i'll go to bed early tonight for a change. :P
have a happy sunday, everyone! (=
