Piece of homework for English. We had to describe a nightmare world. Since man's greatest fear is the fear of being alone, that is what i wrote about. I could write pages and pages or dark, gothic stuff, but this was more interesting, more of a challenge. More fun.
EDIT:- I got an A for this piece of work. Would've been an A* but it was just a little too short.

From the moment i woke up, i could tell something was wrong. I couldn't hear the sounds of my family's games, their joyous laughter. Sitting up, i looked around. Everything was darker than i remember, like the color had been drained from it all. Was this a dream? Climbing out of bed, i caught my foot on that that same loose nail, sticking up from my carpet. I limped out of my room, and that is when i noticed the scent.
It was very faint, but distinct. The scent of blood hung in the air, trailing me like a shadow. Walking down the hall, i shivered. The air was cool and refreshing after my small room, but it was still today. Nothing could effect the feeling i got from that air. No wind was blowing through the window, despite it always being open. No sounds from the usually busy street outside. The world was empty.
I shivered again. The dead air was chilling. An unnatural cold. But worse than that, the shiver, and the pain from catching my foot again, proved i wasn't dreaming. This was real.
I ran out into the street, yelling. Calling out to the world, hoping someone would be there, someone would reply. Silence. Noone called back to be, noone replied. There was noone left to reply. Panicing, i ran from house to house, banging on the doors, the black shadows they cast threw me into darkness. This road used to be a vibrant place, now all i could hear were my own cries. I was alone.
