Listening to: Metal Gear Solid 3 -- Alone and Killing (Boss's Sorrow)
Feeling: compassionate
"Alone I fight and hold my ground,
With enemies and bullets 'round,
Your back against mine, your tears on earth
And as you die, I feel your blood and worth.
I'm alone and killing;
Sorrow haunts my eyes;
Let me die when willing;
So I'll forget to cry."
"Alone and Killing (Boss's Sorrow)" -- Hideki Kamiyasha, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater soundtrack
This song is stirring...it's so sad. It comes from a scene in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. You start off against the boss of your organization, FoxHound, in an attempt to stop her. These are your orders. In the traditional Japanese theme, you fight your love (yes, your love; You are MARRIED to this woman)in a field of orchids and apple blossoms. in the game, you can't win. You can try all you like, but in the close-quarters combat required, your love will eventually knock you out. The flowers go crimson.
You awaken to find yourself chained to a wall. Your wife/lover/boss orders the guards out and unchains you. She then hands you a gun, and says she doesn't want to live a miserable existence where she fights the only man she ever loved. There's a big romantic scene, then Snake (you) points the gun at her head. She smiles, saying you should end it. Then Snake opens the stock and removes all of the bullets.
She gets angry and tortures you. Then, as you're lying on the floor, bleeding, she lies down beside you and kisses you, wraps you in bandages, and sleeps there for the night. You have no idea because you're unconscious.
Later, you awaken to find the gun, with one bullet, and a note. "Use this one wisely..."
Later, you're fighting side by side, back to back, in the same field, and the flowers gradually turn white.
finally, you're standing in the field, and she kisses you and you hold her in your arms. She drops her gun, and for the first time in her life, she says, "I'm unarmed...and weak...and afraid...and alone...and I'm tired of killing."
You hold the gun up and shoot a man who is trying to snipe her from the trees, then drop the useless gun. She cries...and later she is killed.
It's so sad. The song plays while she fights you, while she beats you and holds you in her arms, and finally when you're fighting back to back.
I still love MGS music. The composers are geniuses.
