Chapter 29....

Feeling: unlucky

When the wind blew the rain into the room, the water landed on the table underneath it and soaked the paper resting on top. The storm outside was rather quiet as the music inside fought it away. Typing sounds echoed in the background and the monitor flashed as it worked a new program. She hit the enter key and the program was saved onto a disc. She turned the machine off and left the room.

Her feet took her down the hall and she turned into a room on her left as her hand flipped the light switch. She turned her stereo on and popped in a burned cd her old friend had mailed to her a couple months back. With the music playing in the back of her mind, she wrapped her hands and turned to her punching bag. The first hit made her muscles tense and she sent another one into the middle of the bag. When her hands started to become sore and the wrappings became red, she stopped and walked over to her dumbbells.

She picked up one dumbbell and started working three sets of ten bicep curls. As her muscles burned, she let her mind wander off to keep the numb feeling present. When her muscle hurt too much to move, she switched arms and started over again. The pain slowly crept in as she finished her third set and she put the dumbbells back on their shelf. She stood and turned her stereo off before leaving the room.

Her hands hurt beyond belief, but she didn't think about it as she walked to the bathroom at the far end of the hall. When she entered, she walked over to the tub and started to run hot water. As the tub filled to the top, she removed her shirt and let the sweat start falling onto the floor. She sat on the edge of the tub and began removing the wrappings on her hands. The blood was running from her knuckles and she tossed the wrappings away.

Steam touched her arms and she ran one of her hands through the hot water. It burned her opened skin, but she ignored it and slipped her sweatpants off. When she was relaxing in the water, she closed her eyes and leaned her head back against the edge of the tub. The water loosened her tight muscles and she let out a sigh. After ten minutes of relaxing, the water began to cool and she stepped out of the tub with a warm black towel wrapped around her.

She walked into her room and slipped into her sleeping attire. When she pulled her hair back from her face, she returned to the bathroom and picked up her clothes.S he walked to the laundry room and tossed her clothes into the washer. The load was finally big enough and she poured soap into it and started a wash. With the machine running, she walked into her room and sat at her desk dressing her knuckles.

The wrapping made her open skin burned, but she ignored it as she wrapped her hands enough to stop the blood. She stood up and walked into her kitchen to get a drink. As she took a swallow of water, she looked at the clock and saw that it was after eleven. She put her water back into the fridge and left the kitchen. When she returned to her room, she turned off the ceiling light and turned on the light next to her bed.

She pulled the covers down on her bed and sat down on the bed applying lotion to her skin. She laid down on the mattress and pulled the bedding up over her body. When she rolled onto her side, she set her alarm for early the next morning and turned off her light. With sleep on the brink of taking over, she rolled away from her alarm and pulled one pillow up next to her. She sighed and drifted into another unpleasant sleep.

Her phone's ringing woke her and she reached over to the table and picked the phone up. She rolled onto her back and answered the phone. When she heard nothing on the other end, she rolled her eyes and hung up. She looked at her clock and shut the alarm off. She pushed herself up and forced herself out of the protection of her bed.

She walked down the hall and tossed her clothes into the dryer before entering the bathroom. She started the shower and let the water heat up as she returned to her room. Her eyes scanned her closet until she found the day's outfit and she hung it up on the back of her door. When she returned to the bathroom, the shower was hot and she slipped out of her clothes. The water massaged her stiff muscles and she began running shampoo through her hair.

When she finished washing soap off her skin, she turned the water off and found her warm towel. She walked down the hall and began dressing for work. With her clothes on, she returned to the bathroom and worked on her hair. As she applied some facial cream, she heard the dryer finally buzz. She left the bathroom and walked to the laundry room.

She folded her clothes and took them back into her room to put them away. When she was finally ready for breakfast, she walked into her kitchen and made some eggs. As the eggs cooked, she poured herself a glass of juice and took her daily pills. The eggs finished cooking and she put them on a plate. She sat at her bar eating the eggs while her eyes looked over the newspaper from the previous night.

When she finished eating her breakfast, she rinsed out her glass and put the dishes into the dishwasher.S he put a soap tablet in and started the machine on a wash. She returned to her room and grabbed her jacket and closed up her room. She returned to the bathroom and finished preparing for work. Once she was ready to go, she closed up her house and locked the front door.

As she walked into her garage, she noticed that her neighbors across the street had finally sold their house and were leaving. She opened her garage door and slid into her camarro. When she started the engine, she fastened her seatbelt and backed down her driveway. She stopped near the end of the drive and put her door down. She looked out her mirror and backed onto the road.

The drive took ten minutes to get to the office building and when she pulled into the parking lot, she found her usual spot. As she got out of her car, she grabbed her office supplies and closed the door. She locked the car and walked up the office steps. When she entered the building, she made her way down the hall to the back of the building and hopped onto the elevator. She turned to the side of the door and pressed the button with the number ten on it.

TShe stepped to the back of the elevator and rested her back against the wall as the elevator traveled up to the eighth floor. When it stopped on the fifth floor, she shifted to the right corner of the elevator and waited. The next stopped was her floor and she quietly stepped off the elevator. As she walked down the hall, she passed ten offices and then she opened a giant pair of doors and stepped into a conference room.

Ten men were sitting in big, black leather chairs and all were wearing the boring black business suit. She hid her annoyance as she walked to the end of the table and sat in the open chair at the end of the table on the right side. When she put her supplies on the table, a man to her right stood. His hair was shortly cut with a gel giving it a spike look and the color was a dark brown. He was a mixture between a dark southern and a tanned northern.

His upper body looked like it was a twig wearing the clothes and his legs almost didn't seem to fit him. He wore an outfit that matched all the other men in the room and she could only let out a silent groan in his lack of self-interest. She spotted him looking at her from the corner of his left eye and she nodded. She handed him her work from the past month and he looked over it. When he nodded in agreement, he walked over to a pc in the far right corner and began the presentation.

The presentation and followed lecture took all eight hours of work and she let out a quiet sigh as the men left. When the door closed, she stretched her arms and took in a deep breath. Every conference was the same and she hated being stuck within the confining room.S he stood up and started gathering up her supplies. As she closed up her briefcase, she saw her boss waiting for her and she headed to the door.

When she reached the door he asked "Are you coming down to the club tonight to celebrate our victory?"

She looked at him and said "Depends on how the rest of the day goes."

He smirked and said "You have it off because you did such a fine job presenting that program on the presentation."

With a little pressure gone, she said "I'll think on it."

She opened the door and slipped through it before he could say another word. As she walked down the hall to the elevator, she took a few deep breaths and tried to feel a little joy over their achievement, but nothing happened. She stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the lobby. The ride was quiet except for the annoying elevator music, and she tuned it out as she waited. When the elevator stopped in the lobby, she stepped off it and walked to the main entrance.

She pushed the door open and walked down the steps while soaking up the fresh air and warm sunrays. When she reached her car, she unlocked the door and slid in. As she left the parking lot, she let her mind get off the day and allowed it to begin to wander. The ride home seemed to last forever and when she pulled into the drive, she parked her car in the garage.S he got out and walked to her front door. When she stepped into her home, she hung her jacket up and walked back to her bedroom.

Her briefcase was placed on her desk on the far side of the room and she looked at her closet. One night at the club wouldn't kill her since she had no work for the time being and she skimmed her outfits until one stuck out. She pulled it out of her closet and it hung on the back of her door as she went into her kitchen. When she found some leftovers from a previous meal, she pulled them out and popped them into the microwave. As she ate her dinner, she sat at her bar watching the news for anything new.

After dinner, she returned to her room and changed out of her work clothes. She began fixing her hair so it wouldn't look too professional and held more of a relaxed look. When she was as relaxed looking as possible, she grabbed a leather jacket and left her home. She started her car and backed out while noticing the new neighbors were already moving in. She turned her attention onto the road and head to the club in the middle of downtown.

It took her a few minutes to remember where exactly the club was and five minutes later she was making her way to the door. When the bouncer saw her, he nodded and stepped aside to admit her entrance. She could only grunt in annoyance and she entered the club. As soon as she entered, she was glad she had come. The music was blaring to where you couldn't think about anything and the bar was freshly loaded.

A co-worker nodded to her and took her jacket from her so she could move further into the club. She walked over to the bar and ordered a drink, but only surprised herself by getting just water. It wasn't like she was still trying to stay healthy anymore. She was just in the swing of getting just water and here she had done it again. When she received her drink, she doused it quickly and then her boss stood next to her.

He was dressed in a pair of baggy jeans and his shirt was a dark blue t-shirt that was almost like a body shirt. He looked at her and she glanced at him, but didn't give him the chance to gain her full gaze. Then he sat next to her and she turned her attention to the dance floor. When an old favorite came over the speakers, she silently sighed and ordered another drink. He cleared his throat and she cursed under her breath before looking slightly him.

He wore a stupid smirk and she asked "What?"

With a shrug he asked "Wanna dance?"

She snorted and said "Hell no."

He chuckled and said "I know you like this song. It's obvious. Let's just dance. One dance and I'll leave you alone."

The challenge sounded decent and she said Fine. One dance, that's it."

He quickly took her hand and led her onto the dance floor. As they started, she felt everyone glancing their way and she wanted out of the deal. His arm slipped around her waist and she started to get the feel of the music. When she was finally into the song they had some fun dancing to it. It lasted for three minutes and when it was over, a slow song came on.

She quickly pulled free and walked over to the bar to pay for her two drinks. He took the money eagerly and she slipped over to the closet holding her leather jacket. As she slipped it on, she spotted the idiot looking for her and she walked to the door. When she opened the door, she caught the bouncer's disapproval glance and she sent him a cold one.S he walked over to her car and hopped in before she was caught.
