Anywhere...#17

Feeling: good

Opening her eyes, the ceiling light hit her in the face and she winced as her eyes adjusted to it. Sitting up, she looked around the room and noticed the monitor next to her. Frowning, she looked over to the side of the bed and found a table with a tray of food on it.

'Why?'

The door opened and a doctor walked in. He smiled at her and read the chart in his hand. Smiling still, he looked up at her and nodded.

"You're free to leave whenever someone comes and gets you."

Her eyes narrowed and she said, "I can go on my own."

He shook his head and said, "Not with the medicine in you. You can't walk on your own two feet until everything is passed."

She growled and watched him leave the room. Her mind was racing to escape but she kept still as she let other thoughts kick in.

'I'm going to kill him.'

The door opened and he stepped inside without a word. He watched her think and smirked as he approached the bed. She looked shaken still but at least her color was better. Her eyes snapped to him and he stopped moving.

"What are you doing here?"

Bryan chuckled and said, "I came to take you home."

Her eyes narrowed and he said, "Hey, I was the first available when the doctor left the message with your secretary."

She sighed and shoved the sheets aside as she got to her feet. She felt her legs weaken but held herself up with stubbornness. He wrapped an arm around her waist and she sent him a cold look.

"You wanna fall?"

Closing her eyes, she allowed him to escort her out of the room. As they moved down the hall, she let her mind wander elsewhere.

Sitting behind her desk brought energy back into her and she savored the cup in her hand. The heat loosened the knots in her stomach and she turned her attention to the paperwork in front of her. Pulling out a pen, she began writing. The visit to the hospital was a week long and she was behind on work, something she didn't take lightly.

"Faith?"

She looked up at the voice and smiled at her secretary. It was wonderful to see her again and to know the woman kept her opinions to herself. The woman's face was disturbed and she narrowed her eyes.

"A man is here to see you."

Her fist tightened as she watched the woman leave to get the man. Her knuckles were white when he entered and she about jumped the desk. He closed the door behind him and she heard the lock go into place.

"You risk coming into here."

His eyes were cold and he growled, "Why are you back at work?"

She leaned back into her chair and said, "I can't sit around when there's work to be done. I already lost a week thanks to you."

He cross the room in two long steps and leaned across her desk. His hands were hard and firmly planted on her desk. His eyes burned into hers with more than just concern.

She took a deep breath and asked, "What do you want?"

"You."

She felt the smirk working across her face and said, "Sorry you feel that way."

Turning her gaze back to her paperwork, she began writing again and tried to ignore him. He spun her chair around and pulled her to her feet. The room spun with the intensity of his action and she fought to keep herself up.

"Jesse, stop."

His eyes flashed and he growled, "You left with Bryan, didn't you?"

"He came to get me. I wanted out and he was the first person there."

His gaze was lethal and she tried to look away but his hand kept her chin firmly in place. His other hand ran through her hair and she felt the slight tremble in his touch.

"Faith, you scare me."

Her eyes softened and she said, "As do you."

He met her gaze and said, "I can't ignore you, can't get you to leave me alone. You're everywhere and it's choking me to death."

She smiled and said, "As you do to me."

He let her go and moved across the room. Her eyes followed him and she watched him unlock the door. Opening the door, he stopped and looked back at her. She crossed the room and slipped her hand around him as she closed the door. She locked it once more and turned her attention back to him.

"Jesse, I am terrified of you but I will not run from you. I did that once and I promised to never do that again."

His eyes held her gaze and he pulled her into him. He savored her body against his and took in the sweet scent of her hair. His hand slid up and down her spine, memorizing every inch. She looked up into his face and he captured her lips. The electricity filled the room and struck them both.

Her arms circled his neck and he pulled her closer to him. Every ounce of him knew what he wanted, what he needed and he let her breathe as he met her gaze.

"Jesse..."

"I want you."

He let go of her and stepped back as she took in deep breaths to calm her burning lungs. Her body stung from where he had touched her and she felt the coil in her stomach twisting in agony. Taking a deep breath, she laced her hand with his and met his gaze.

"I need a break anyways."

His eyes lit and she smiled as she led him out of the office. She left a message with her secretary and told her to take messages for her. They slipped down the hall and out the entrance.
