Weathered Chapter 7.

Feeling: manic

The soft music over the speakers kept his mind on the road. A red light appeared up ahead and he brought the car to a stop. Then he looked over to the passenger seat. She was slouched down into the seat enough that her knees rested on the dash and her head on her right shoulder. Her blonde hair fell softly around her face and he looked over her body.

She was wearing the same black top she wore the day they had met. Her shorts were blue jeans and cut off half way down her thigh. Her legs were thin and strong with the rich tan wrapped around them. Her shoes were a few months old K-Swiss and her socks cut off at the ankles in a way to hide them. A honk from the car behind him made him look away from her and back at the road.

'She wanted out so bad. Guess I can take her with me...'

When the car stopped and the engine became silent, her mind started to work again. She took a deep breath and opened her eyes. She was in the middle of farm land outside of the town and she sat up in her seat. Her hand found the door handle and she slowly opened the door. Barking sounds came from the barn in the distance and she looked out to the meadow.

"You're at my place."

She looked over her shoulder at the man and asked, "Why though?"

He was resting his head on his arms on top of the car and said, "Figured you'd rather not go home just yet."

Her teeth bit her lip as she listened to his reasoning and she said, "I guess I'm surprised more than anything else."

He nodded and said, "Follow me and I'll show you around."

She went to grab her bag but thought twice about it. It wasn't like she wouldn't be going home later this evening, so there was no reason to have her stuff with her then. With her mind made up, she looked for Terry and found him waiting for her up the drive. He had one hand rested on his pocket while his eyes were focused on her with the same stern look as before. She took a deep breath and made her way over to where he stood.

When she stood in front of him, he said, "This is where I stood the first day I came here."

She didn't say a word and he said, "Next, you will get to see the barn. It's the only quiet place on this entire strip of land."

It took them a few minutes to reach the barn, but when they stepped into it she understood what he meant. True there was some livestock, but the rush of society was nowhere to be found. She walked over to a row of stalls and found a pair of dark brown eyes watching her with black hair in the way. She glanced at Terry and found him waiting for her to make a move. With a cautious step, she approached the horse and began a soft caress on his jaw.

"That's Desmon. He's a stud and around two years old."

His voice was awfully loud in her ear and she turned around to see him right next to her. She felt her body tighten in hopes of escape and then she saw his gaze shift slightly. He seemed rather interested with her gaze and she backed up until she was against the stall door. Desmon shoved her forward and she bumped straight into Terry.

She looked around for a possible escape and said, "I want to go home."

He nodded and said, "Very well."

When he didn't move, she said, "As in now. Just take me home, Terry."

His eyes flashed and he asked, "Uncomfortable?"

She looked straight at him and said, "Bad experiences."

Her words must have been enough proof because he turned and left the barn. She took a deep breath and looked back at Desmon.

He tossed his head and she asked, "What's with him?"

The stud looked straight at her and she said, "I guess he deserves a better explanation than what I gave him.""

"Terry can wait. I'm in need of one first."

She whirled around and looked at the man leaning on a stall door across the barn. Her eyes studied his face and she knew he was waiting. Something about him made her skin crawl and she made herself stay calm.

Her voice was steady and she said, "I'm leaving, so it doesn't matter."

The man walked up to her and asked, "Did Terry bring you here when he knows he isn't allowed to? Did he?"
