Anywhere...#12

The computer beeped and she frowned. Taking a drink from her hot coffee, she looked at the message and rubbed the base of her neck. A knock from her door brought her attention away and she looked up as Bryan stepped inside. He smirked and she rolled her eyes as she turned back to her computer.

"Glad to see you're having a good morning."

Her eyes flashed and she asked, "What do you want?"

He chuckled and sat on the edge of her desk. She took a deep breath and looked up at him.

He smirked and asked, "How about dinenr tonight at the Riverside Cafe around seven?"

She shook her head and said, "Not happening."

Bryan laughed and said, "That's what you said the last time."

Faith pushed back from her desk and walked across her room. She looked through her file cabinet and pulled out a large envelope. She placed on the desk and he raised an eyebrow.

"What's with that?"

She sat back down and said, "Work, something you know nothing about apparently."

He faked a painful face and she waved him away.

He moved to the door and said, "I'll come get you around 6:30 then. Until then."

She sighed and leaned back in her chair. No matter what she told him, the man never quit. He was never going to quit unless she took a transfer and met another guy.

'Not going to happen anytime soon.'

The traffic was thick and horns blared at each other. She smirked and turned her attention back to her work in the front of her. The monitor was all documents and she shifted through them by date. The cd player next to her played the cd that she had received recently. The group was talented and rather good.

She picked up her cell phone and called a nearby contact. She heard three rings go through and then he finally picked up.

"Hello?"

"Alan, this is Faith."

"It's been a while."

She smirked and said, "I have a band I think you should have play at the club Friday night."

"Are they good?"

"I'll bring you the demo tomorrow."

The door bell rang and she glanced at the check. Rolling her eyes she hung up and put her computer on standby. Silently she moved through the apartment and opened the door.

'Right on time, like aways.'

Bryan smiled and said, "I'm here."

She sighed and said, "Fine. Let me go get changed. You know you have to quit with these stupid games."

She left the room and slipped into her bedroom. Her hand went through her closet and stopped on a navy blue dinner dress. Slowly she laid it across her chair and slipped out of her comfortable clothing. She slipped into the silk dress and pulled on a pair of matching blue heels. Sighing, she looked into her mirror as she pulled her hair back from her face and secured it to the back of her head.

She opened a drawer and pulled out a gold necklace. Her fingers slid across the links and she took a deep breath. Slowly she slipped it on and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ears. Silently she slipped out into the hall and moved to the living room. Bryan's eyebrow went up as she emerged and she allowed him to help her into a jacket.

He smiled and she said, "Not a word."

He shrugged and they left the apartment. Silently she followed him to his car and he helpd her inside. As he got in the driver's side, her cell phone went off and she glanced at the caller.

"Need to take it?"

She shook her head and turned her cell phone off as they pulled away from the curb. Putting the phone into her purse, she looked out the window and watched the neighborhood pass by.

Sitting at the table, she looked over the menu and silently screamed. There was too many decisions and she didn't like spending his money. Bryan smirked and put his menu aside as the waitress brought two glasses of water.

She smiled at Faith and asked, "Are we ready to order?"

Faith took a deep breath and Bryan said, "Two specials and two margaritas."

The waitress nodded and walked away. She put her menu down and looked at him. He smirked and she rolled her eyes.

"I don't drink."

He chuckled and said, "You keep yourself so distant from the world that you forget that a drink every now and then won't hurt you."

Her eyes flashed and he rubbed his chin. She looked around the restaurant and studied all the couples enjoying their meals. Something hurt in her soul, but she pushed it aside, knowing what was going on.

"Tell me about yourself, Faith."

She looked back at him and said, "It doesn't matter."

Bryan leaned back in his seat and said, "You always keep quiet. Why is that? Did you do something illegal?"

She felt herself tense slightly and growled, "No."

He caught her mood change and said, "Easy, I didn't mean to offend you. I'm trying to get to know you."

The waitress arrived with the margaritas and left. She took a drink and felt the liquid calm her nerves enough that she relaxed her mind. Her eyes glanced at the liquid in the glass and she heard his chuckle.

"I think one will do you just fine."

She sent him a cold look and said, "I don't need one period. You're paying, just remember that."
