Unaffected-Chapter 8

Feeling: alright

His eyes narrowed and his voice became distant as he asked, "Who are you?

----------------------------------------------

She looked at him with a slight startled look though humor was more dominant and she softly said, "The only girl you ever treated like the boys."

His eyes remained distant and his voice dipped low as he said, "Don't play games with me."

She shook her head and ran a hand across her face as she said, "Come on, Adam. Just think about it."

At first she thought he'd get it, but then his eyes became even colder with something lethal seizing control of the stare and she bit her lip. Her head started to throb and she knew he was pushing against her wall. She sent a push back and watched as his jaw tightened to her stubborness.

Then she watched him take another drink from the bottle and heard, "Kinetic."

She shrugged carelessly and said, "Can't help what you're born with, right?"

His eyes lost some of the predator gaze and he said, "You had training."

Her eyes fixed directly at him and she heard herself growl, "Don't give me that bullshit, Adam. We were both tortured and you had it worse than me. I was allowed breaks that let me recover from the manipulations."

A hint of a laughter hit his eyes and he said, "Still the fireball."

She smirked at the name and said, "So you do remember me. Took you long enough."

He took a drink from the bottle and asked, "What are you doing here, Shelia?"

She looked at the bottle in his hand and said, "Same as you. Running from the boys."

His grip tightened on the neck and he growled, "I'm not running from them. I'm here working."

Her bound hair fell into her face as she shook her head and said, "Whatever you say. I'm hitting the sack for the night. Have a nice visit with your pal there."

She watched his eyes widen slightly at her sarcasm and she stepped into the hall. When she disappeared from the kitchen, he looked down at the bottle and then he took another drink.

'Damn it, does she have to be so grown up?'
