Feeling: torn

The alarm clock buzzed and she opened her eyes as she shut the contraption off. Sighing, she sat up in bed and stretched her shoulders. When she slid onto her feet the door opened and she watched him walk in. He moved to the closet and pulled out a jacket before he met her eyes. Her eyes narrowed slightly and he smirked before he left the room.

She sighed and walked into the bathroom next door. As the hot water ran over her body, she felt her muscles slipping into relaxation. After she turned the shower off, she slipped into a towel and returned to her room. She looked through her drawer and pulled out a pair of running sweats and an athletic black tank. As she pulled her shirt over her head, she glanced at the time and picked up her shoes.

She walked downstairs and put her shoes on next to the front door. As she got to her feet, she caught him watching her and she shook her head as she opened the door. She felt him watch her as she slipped outside and shut the door behind her to block his burning gaze.

----------------------------------------------

His gaze burned as she disappeared and he sighed. It was so hard for him to keep this act up. They both knew he was doing this to keep her protected, but god he missed her. His eyes looked up the stairs at the closed door that use to be both of their rooms. Silently he climbed the stairs and opened the door.

His eyes ran over the room and he moved over to the bed. Sitting down on the edge, he lifted the pillow into his hands and savored the summer scent still on it. Sighing he closed his eyes and tried to remember the last time he had been able to hold her throughout the night.

"Oh don't even start."

"Just listen to me."

"No, you're going to go all political on me and I don't want this ruined."

He laughed and said, "I'm not going political, Faith."

Her eyes flashed and he smirked before he kissed her forehead. She closed her eyes and he watched her drift to sleep. His arms held her close to him and he felt his entire body at peace as he watched her sleeping in his arms.

Growling he put the pillow back and left the room. Quickly he moved down the stairs and picked up his car keys. As he headed for the door, the phone rang and he stopped. It rang again and he swore as he picked it up.

"Hello?"

"Ah Jess, glad I could catch you."

"What do you want?"

"Well, I need you to come down to the station. Some men here would like to talk with you about the occurrences you and Faith are involved in."

His eyes narrowed and he hung up without a reply. He walked over to the door and opened it. Closing it behind him, he walked over to his car and hopped in. As he started the engine, he glanced around and found the neighborhood silent and dead. Frowning, he backed out of the driveway and headed for the station.

----------------------------------------------

The door opened quietly and she stepped inside as she kicked off her shoes. When she closed the door, she found the place silent and moved into the kitchen. She pulled a water bottle from the fridge and walked back into the kitchen. Picking up the tv remote, she turned on the news and sat down on the couch. As she watched the news, her eyes drifted closed and she curled up on the couch.

Her mind was exhausted and her body was burnt out from the long jog she took. Sighing, she allowed her mind to drift asleep.

----------------------------------------------

The headlights hit the front of the house and he turned off the engine. He climbed out of the car and locked the door before moving up to the front door. As he walked into the place, he kept his steps light and quiet. He closed the door without a sound and looked at the running tv. His eyes narrowed and he moved over to the couch and picked up the remote.

Turning the tv off, he placed the remote back on the table beside the couch and looked down. His chest burned and he felt his throat closing as he looked down at her. Her body was still as luring as ever and he brushed some loose hair from her face. How he prayed he could hold her again. Quietly he picked her up and wrapped her arm around his neck as he carried her upstairs.

When he placed her on her bed, he pulled the sheet up around her body and picked up her alarm. He set the time she would want up and put the clock back down. He looked back down into her sleeping face and felt his heart tugging. Shaking his head, he walked over to the door and opened it.

"Jesse."

Her tired voice froze him and he looked back at her.

She sat up and asked, "Why are you doing this?"

He sighed and said, "I have to."

Her eyes narrowed as she looked away and said, "I miss you."

He took a deep breath and walked over to the bed. Sitting next to her, his hand ran through her hair and he felt his whole being crave her. Silently he turned her to look at him and he found the hidden pain deep in her eyes.

"Faith, I'm sorry I have to do this. I miss you so much it kills me to even be near you."

Her hand found his and she said, "Please stay with me tonight. Just tonight."

He smirked and slid into bed next to her. Her head rested on his chest while his hand slid through her hair. He kissed her forehead and silently prayed the night would never end.
