Unaffected-Chapter 12

Feeling: abandoned

The room was utterly silent and still her head insited on killing her. She placed her glass down on the coffee table next to her and got to her feet. Something was wrong and she knew it. Her eyes drifted to the window and she slowly pulled the curtain back to look out. She saw the dirt flying and saw the approaching vehicle.

Then she let the curtain fall back in place and looked around the room. There was no protection from the invasion and she stood no chance against these men if they had the drugs with them again. Plus, Adam was still laid up from the last encounter. She heard the breaks squeal outside and she let out a sigh. Quietly she walked into the back of the cabin and stopped outside his door.

With a deep breath, she opened the door and looked at the bed. She saw the painful lines etched across his face and her eyes dropped to the floor. Then she shoved her hand through her hair and stepped back into the hall. Her eyes looked at the door and then she leaned against the door.

'What am I going to do? I can't let them take Adam, but I can't go back. God, what am I going to do?'

The sound of the doorlock being picked brought her back to reality and she let out a deep breath. She grabbed her jacket from the closet and slipped it on. Then she looked back down the hall one last time.

'Get better, Adam.'

She heard a door open in the hall, but ignored it. Her hand reached the knob and she turned it. She felt the elder woman's eyes on her, but she opened the door. Two men stood ready for a fight and she looked directly at them. One smirked and the other gripped her left arm.

The grip was like stone and she winced when the needle was jammed into her arm. She took a deep breath to keep from retreating and looked down at the ground. The man on her left laughed at her and hit her upside the head.

The distant sound of tears jarred him from his rest. He looked around his room and a moan escaped him. One hand covered his face and he took a deep breath. He had one hell of an apology to give. Then he got out of the bed and forced his way across the room.

When he stepped into the hall, he heard the crying coming from the den and he leaned against the wall. Doubt began to settle in and he shook it off. Then he straightened and walked into the den. He saw Jenny sitting in the doorway and he looked around the room.

Then he heard her torn voice cry, "They took her! They came and she left with them!"
