Ωκεανό Tale Chapter 6

Listening to: Try Again-Keane
Feeling: inpain
A light appeared before her and she stopped. Slowly she became aware of a presence up head and continued. She heard the hushed laughter and quietly approached an old cave. Chills ran up her spine but she forced herself forward. The light began to open up around her and she found an opening overlooking the insides of the cave. Stopping at the opening, she looked down and found the person she seeked looking at her reflection. The woman let out a sick laugh and it sent more chills through her. "Come for my help, Princess?" Closing her eyes, she slowly slid through the opening and swam downward. The witch slowly looked back at her and smiled. "I see you couldn't obey Old Felic forever." "I just want to know what I can do to save the town." The woman laughed again and she closed her eyes. The sound grated on her ears and she almost wish she hadn't come. "Why would you want to help the very town that killed your mother?" "Those people are innocent." The woman laughed again and said "See for yourself." She was pulled over to the mirror and forced to sit down. The witch touched the edge of the mirror and she found it changing. Her reflection disappeared and she found herself looking at the townspeople. "I say we leave before any more bad luck falls on us." "You as well as I know that the Lord won't go for it. We're stuck here until we all die or he croaks." "You could always get Christopher to finish his father's work." She closed her eyes and the mirror returned to normal. Those people sounded desperate and utterly compassionless. "You want to help those sorry souls?" "Yes." The witch studied her and smiled. "Very well." Eábha looked back at her and asked "What do I have to do?" The woman moved to her desk and said "I'll give you one year to make those idiots appreciate what they have instead of plotting how to rid themselves of their precious Lord." She watched the woman open a book and slowly rose. "Úna?" The woman looked back at her and asked "What?" "What do you want in return?" The smile sickened her and she closed her eyes. "Your mother died believing she had to safe those people. I want you to work for me when you fail." "Work with you?" She laughed and said "As my prisoner." "Prisoner?" Úna laughed again and held out the book. She took the book slowly and ran her eyes over the content. It was a chant that spoke of a bond. She looked up at the witch and found her smiling. "All you have to do is speak these words." "You're kidding." Úna shook her head and said "I don't leave trails for anyone to find." "What will happen at the end of one year?" The woman's smile was sickening and she said "Either I own you or you get your old life back plus being able to walk among those people you so desperately want to help." She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. If her father heard what she was about to do he'd kill her himself. She wished she could turn her back on those people like him but it was impossible. Slowly she opened her eyes and looked down at the words. "I am a part of all that I have met. I hold it true, whatever befall; I feel it, when I sorrow most; I must lose myself in action, lest I wither in despair.Theirs is not to make reply: Theirs is not to reason why: Theirs is but to do and die." The words blurred before her and she felt the water begin to swirl around her. She heard Úna laughing in victory and the book fell from her hands. Her breath caught in her throat and she met the witch's stare. "Hurry to the surface if you want to live." Her hands went to her throat and she swam from the cave. The plants pulled at her, begging her to stay with them forever but she forced herself free. Leaving the forest, she stroked quickly upward and saw the light growing closer. Her vision began to fade and she felt two arms catch her. She looked behind her and found Liam. "What did you do?" She tried to pull free but he held her. Her lungs were slowly starting to burn and he carried her to the surface. Taking in the fresh air, she closed her eyes and let her pulse slow down. "Eábha." She looked back at her brother and said "I had no choice." He closed his eyes and sighed "Father will come looking for you." "I know." "Do I have to lie to him again?" She shook her head and said "Tell him the truth." Liam opened his eyes and said "He will be furious." She nodded and pulled away. Looking around, she saw a beach not too far off and looked back at Liam. "Do you need help?" She shook her head and kissed his jaw. "Keep everyone safe." He hugged her fiercely and she slowly pulled away. Calming the growing ache inside, she swam toward the beach. Liam disappeared beneath the water and she slowly approached the beach. Her body ached and her vision began to blur. The shallow water slowly surrounded her and she crawled onto the warm sand. She looked up at the bright sun and felt everything begin to drift away. The ocean waves faded out of hearing and her eyes drifted closed. "Forgive me Father." (A/N: Chant is a combination of Lord Alfred Tennyson's quotes.)
