I just learned some crazy stuff from my dad the other day about my family history. I was like "woah" when I heard this...so I decided to do some research on my family history, and I'm finding some crazy stuff as I browse through some stuff...but this is what I heard from my dad:
Apparently our family started with a French Knight way way back with whatever the French word is for Harris as his last name. This knight's family line went on for a while and his family moved to Britain, where the surname "Harris" derived from the French surname at the time. The family stayed there for a while, and then we moved across the Atlantic and settled in and around the Pensilvania area (I think I spelled that wrong...oh well) and then some of us moved up into the Maritime provinces. After a while, we came down and settled in southern Ontario, in and around Oshawa here, and that's when I came a long, and we've been living in the Shwa for as long as I can remember. But yeah....an interesting piece of family history.
I also started researching the various symbols on our Family crest, and this is what I found. It has the normal shield shape, with some kind of design on it, with two crossed swords behind it. After researching meanings of these symbols and stuff, the swords represent Justice and Military honour. There is also a hedgehog in the design, which represents a provident provider. All of this is on a white crest with black spots on it.
But yeah...it's crazy stuff....but fascinating. Well, I'm almost done with my family history for now, but I'm sure I'll have something to say by the time I'm done.
Later.
