Dreamland - #13

The war for Dreamland is over. I walk into my tent and stand there. I clench my fists and begin taking it down. My captain died in the battle, so my newer, younger, unexperienced captain walks by, his new red cape billowing behind him. I watch him walk by, he might be newer, but he survived the war, and that was good enough for me. I walk away from where my tent used to be, and meet up with my love. We walk from the battlefield towards our horses, which are tied to several trees on the opposite side of a nearby hill. A storm rages overhead, and it begins to rain hard. We ride our horses through the rain to the small village where I had met her again before the final battle. We walk through the village to her home. All is quiet in the small home, and we walk upstairs, and I take off my armour and sit on the edge of the bed. The final battle of Dreamland is over, but more will surely follow in the future. My love drapes her arm over my shoulders. "The war is over, and we're still here." she says. "I know." I say, smiling and giving her a kiss. She smiles. The mext morning, I stand with my love in the rain, which hadn't stopped all night. Another war would come, and I was thankful I'd just lived through this one.
