Dreamland XI - #5

Several days later, Death informed us of our latest assignment. During the week I had been riding with the Horsemen, a large force of demonic creatures, similar to the ones I battled in the Great War of Dreamland, had invaded Dreamland from the north and were making their way south towards the capitol. "So we're going to fight a campaign against these guys and drive them back?" I asked. "What else do you do in war?" War asked. "True enough." I said, and Famine looked off towards the north. "If we have our assignment, do you not think it is time to ride?" Famine asked. "We must gather an army first." Death responded. I nodded. "Then we should go now. Gather a reasonable force and oppose them whereever we can put up a strong defence." I said, my inner general coming out. "Now you're beginning to sound like a Horsemen of the Apocalypse." Pestilence said. War chuckled. "He might even replace me." War said, and I frowned. "I wouldn't dream of it." I responded, and we rode north, stopping by small villages, gathering men to our cause. The women scolded the men who joined for joining the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, but they joined anyways. Using whatever power made them so powerful, Death outfitted each soldier with a black, demonic looking suit of armour, and a long, crimson bladed demon sword. When we rode away from the first five towns, we had gathered 300, and after five more villages and towns we had a 1 000. We reached a large city, and we gathered another 500, bringing out number of troops to 1 800 troops. Outfitted in their armour and given a demon sword, War believed that they would stand well against the tide of demonic creatures, so we rode north until we reached a gap between two mountains in a long mountain range. "This is a good hold point." I said, looking around at all I saw. Death nodded in agreement, although the movement was barely seen by the hood he wore. "They'd either have to go around us or force their way through here, so I'm going with Marius on this one." War said, at last in agreement with me about something. "Alright. How do you propose we defend this point Marius?" Death asked. "We form a battle line ahead of the troops. The troops in the front of the line behind us are fitted with shields and spears. They form a shield wall and hold there against anything that comes at them, while we ride out as a vanguard and start fighting off anything that approaches. That way we'll take out most of the enemies and most of our troops will stay alive." I said. "A good plan." War said, nodding. "Then lets arrange the troops now before the enemy gets here." Famine said. We all nodded in agreement and went about with my battle plan.
