The king's soldiers around me were being killed off quickly, and I realized that they had no hope of holding the section by themselves. "Go get more troops over here!" I barked at one of them, and he sheathed his bloody sword and ran off in the direction of the barracks, hoping to find more troops. I turned back to the enemy soldiers, and saw something that frightened even me. The swords the new batch of enemy soldiers were carrying glinted with the vampire killing metal, which meant that they could kill us vampires just as easily as they were killing off the white armoured guards and king's soldiers. Anger filled me, and I summoned all of the skill I had earned during the fighting I had been a part of over the years. An enemy soldier rushed at me, holding his blade back as though to thrust it forward through my gut. He looked straight at my eyes, which was his first mistake. I moved with more speed than the soldier had probably seen, and as he stared at my eyes, I swung my sword at his neck and quickly cut it from his shoulders. He fell back, and I hefted up his sword into my right hand. Another soldier attacked me, and I blocked his blow with my black bladed sword, and slashed his gut open with the stolen blade. I fought my way through the rest of the enemy soldiers, and was joined by a group of ten white armoured guards. They fought back the rest of them, and when they were all slain I booted the three ladders back down into the ranks of the enemy army. A few more of the explosive spheres smashed into the wall of the castle, exploding brightly and burning up the soldiers where they had landed. The spheres didn't just land on the ramparts either. Some overshot the wall and landed within the castle's walls, destroying and burning down whatever homes where within the walls. A few even pounded into the king's tower, which no doubt rattled the king and worried him some. A seige tower successfully made it to the portion of the wall defended by the white armoured guards, and fierce fighting broke out along that portion of the wall. Vincent, Kirk and Athran joined the guards stationed there and began fighting the enemy soldiers back, and Vincent began shooting the enemy soldiers off of the wall with the Cerebrus. Strycnine joined with the archers, and began firing arrows into the enemy soldiers already on the wall instead of down into the army on the ground. The soldiers on the wall were thinned out, and the archers turned their attention back to the soldiers on the ground as a fresh batch of the king's soldiers appeared on the wall and killed off the remainder of the enemy soldiers. At the rate we were going, we stood a decent chance of defending the castle successfully, although the explosive spheres continued to rain down upon us. I watched as a new wave of seige towers came moving in towards the wall, and I wondered how much longer we could hold out here.
