Dreamland XI - #3

Our next assignment brought us to familiar territory, at least for me. We rode through the mountain range where the ruins of the Order's base stood, and I found myself wishing I could return to those days when the Order was still around and powerful. We reached the king's castle, which was still being repaired by the soldiers and bricklayers under the king's command. "You fought quite the battle here." War said. "Yes. We lost many good soldiers." I replied. "And then you took off to kill the general of the army that attacked you?" Pestilence asked. "Yes. Killed her and her knight protector." I replied, feeling bitterness fill my heart. "That's a lot of death." I heard, ironically, from Death. We continued riding, catching a few glances from the few remaining white armoured guards stationed along the ruined castle's ramparts. "Why are we here?" I asked. "There are fragments of the shattered army that you defeated hiding somewhere in the foothills of this region, causing trouble for the few soldiers here and travellers. We're to take them out." Death replied. Famine chuckled. "We've finally gotten you an assignment that you'll enjoy." Famine said as he finished. I felt anger rising in me towards the soldiers remaining from the massive army, and hoped that we would meet them in battle. We rode, and came across a few scouts of the forces. They still had some rough structure, which surprised me. I wondered if they still had different ranks, or were a disorganized horde. Pestilence brought his bow into the air and fired off two arrows, hitting the two scouts in the chests. They dropped dead, and we formed a line before their cave base. "I think we should let Marius take care of this one." Famine said. War and Pestilence nodded in agreement, and Death chuckled. "Let this army of filth come! Let justice be done upon them!" I bellowed, drawing my sword from its sheath. A few dozen troops came out from the base, but the rest of the two hundred troops followed. I felt an odd feeling. Though I had been forcefully placed with these Horsemen in order to save my immortal soul, I felt oddly at peace while riding with them, and I felt even better now that I was destroying the soldiers who had destroyed my entire life. I kicked up my horse and charged forward, with the other Horsemen following closely behind. We formed into a long battle line, and the enemy formed into a single battallion, with spear wielding troops up front behind a wall of shield bearing troops. I brought my blade crashing down upon the first soldier before me, and the steel of my blade cut through his shield and armour, sending his blood high into the air in a large spray. If I was ever at peace before, it was nothing compared to the feeling I was getting as we Horsemen trampled down the enemy soldiers.
